Pershing
Overview
Pershing State Park offers a peaceful retreat into the diverse landscapes of north-central Missouri. Named in honor of General John J. Pershing, the park preserves a unique mix of wetlands, prairies, and bottomland forests. It provides a quiet alternative to busier state parks, making it an ideal destination for those who appreciate natural preservation and a slower pace of life during their RV travels. The park serves as a living laboratory of Missouri's native ecology.
Location & Surroundings
Located just outside of Laclede, the park is defined by the wandering waters of Locust Creek. The surrounding area is characterized by lush greenery and the rare wetland environment that allows visitors to explore the marshes without disturbing the ecosystem. The terrain is largely flat, reflecting the geography of the Grand River basin. This setting provides an immersive experience in the Missouri wilderness, where the sound of the wind through the riparian forest is the primary soundtrack.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground at Pershing State Park is well-suited for RVers, offering electric hookups at many sites to ensure a comfortable stay. Visitors have access to essential facilities including modern restrooms and shower houses, which are well-maintained for a rustic setting. For families, the park includes a playground and a designated swim beach on the lake. Nature enthusiasts can take advantage of the numerous picnic areas scattered throughout the scenic hardwood forests, often featuring shaded sites for hot summer days.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
A major draw for history buffs is the Locust Creek Covered Bridge State Historic Site, which is located nearby and features one of the few remaining covered bridges in the state. Within the park, the boardwalk offers excellent birdwatching opportunities across the marsh. Anglers often frequent the park's small lakes and streams for fishing, while several miles of hiking and biking trails wind through the prairie habitats. The nearby Gen. John J. Pershing Boyhood Home in Laclede offers additional historical context for the region.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an excellent choice for nature photographers and birdwatchers who want to capture the unique flora and fauna of Missouri's wetlands. It is also ideal for families seeking a quiet educational experience near historical landmarks. Because of its serene atmosphere and manageable size, it serves as a perfect stopover for RVers traveling through the Midwest who prefer a tranquil, natural environment over a crowded commercial resort. It is a true gem for those looking to disconnect and recharge in nature.

So glad I stopped and walked the Boardwalk Trail. If you get a chance, go to the nearby Gen John J Pershing Boyhood Home State Historic Site and check out the museum there. Well worth the short trip.

The park is very well maintained and the bathrooms and showers were very clean. The only problem is had is that there was a couple of campers that let there dogs run without a leash. They were less than 100 feet from the host. I have a hard time believing he didn't see them once in the two days stay that they were there.

Beautiful small park with wonderful walks. I went end of May. No bugs! Well flies, but nothing biting this time of year. Paths are well maintained. Facilities very clean, including a washer and dryer ! Get that!! Coin operated. $1.50 each. If you come when not too busy it's a very relaxing park. Lots of woodpeckers so that should tell you something.

Absolutely beautiful & wonderful place to walk the boardwalk trail is 1.5 miles long with a loop. I definitely recommend making the trip I went on memorial day but there is historic sites all around the area along with a very large pecan haha. Honestly this is a great place to spend a day.
