What an amazing place. I can not wait to go back. Got so lucky and scored site 10 for five nights the first week of October. Pack for all 4 seasons when you go because the weather is definitely ALL over the place. The first 2 days 85° and sunny. The next two days 50° and windier than I ever could have imagined. Last day. 65° and perfect. Even went in the water. Being from Wisconsin definitely helps. 😂 The beauty is magical.

Fun spot to stop and walk to the lighthouse from. Tons of great mushrooms to check out, I wish I had had a mushroom guide with me!

The beach is awesome, beautiful. It's Lake Superior. Hearing the crashing waves through the night. I would give 5 stars if this camp ground had modern bathrooms with running water and showers.

Great campground and sites. Clean and quiet and spacious. Not much cell service for us with Verizon but I’m good with that. This campground is reservation only on the recreation gov site and it fills up fast, there are only 10 sites available. Like I said, it’s very spacious, they could easily get a few more spots opened up and it would still be spacious.

Was a very nice camp ground. Bathrooms were clean. The only issue we had was our campsite was completely infested with termites site six on the lower loop. When we first arrived, they were just swarming and flying everywhere. Not a big deal just quite annoying. The beach is very nice. The hike to lighthouse is very nice except for the relentless flies but hey, what are you gonna do about flies? All in all it was very nice.

Fantastic campsites close to Lake Superior. We had 3 sites and were just a few yards from the lake. You’ll be able to fall asleep listening to the waves. The sunset and sunrise were amazing. The hike to the Au Sable Lighthouse is nice and you can see the skeletons of wooden shipwrecks. There are lots of views of the lake. The lighthouse and surrounding buildings are worth the hike.

One of my favorite camp grounds! The sites are spaced out pretty well so you get some privacy from other campers. The Upper sites are a bit more of a trek down to the beach/trail, but it still is pretty close! The lower sites you may have more travelers passing by due to backpackers but I've never been bothered by them/it. Lots of trails to explore, the beach is nice, the quiet hours are reasonable. The toilets aren't bad but please remember to close the lid when not in use! Helps the smells. Only downside is the flies that get in there.

Disclaimer: we didn't actually camp here, though it seemed like a nice, quiet place to go for that. We parked nearby and took the trail out to the Au Sable Light Station, and spent a little time where the Hurricane River flows into Superior, as well. We saw people parked in the lot right off H-58, and assumed that was the place to go. There's actually another lot closer to the campground that would've saved us a handful of steps. The trail out to the Light Station is wide enough for a car and covered with chipped rocks, and also fairly flat; even though it's about 1.5 miles from the campground to the Station, it's not an awful walk. The river also seemed like an enjoyable place for kids to play in the water.

Fantastic campsite right up from Lake Superior. We stayed at the Lower section which is just steps from the water. You’ll be able to fall asleep listening to the waves crash on the beach. You have easy beach access here and then also access to the North Country Trail which from this campground is just a short venture to the Au Sable Lighthouse. Other hiking and overlook sites are a short drive away.

Nice gravel driveway to walk to the lighthouse. Over a mile to walk but flat. It would be nice to have a few benches along path to sit if needed or benches by Lighthouse to sit and have a picnic.

I was very lucky to get a camping spot online and I was very happy with the campground. Clean. Easy to find. Very quiet. Short walk to the beach. Definitely will come back again maybe stay at lower campground. Great walk to the Au Sable light house. Highly recommend.

We were in lower site 9. It was a very tight fit with about 1 foot clearance on sides. No water or electricity of course. Campground host was wonderful. Introduced themselves and gave out information that was very useful. There is no check-in. Site was very clean and right on the paths. You are a short walk to Lake Superior. It rained the entire Time we were here. That brought out the worst in biting flies and mosquitoes. So, this wasn’t the best. If not for that it would have been amazing.

Great views of Lake Superior and an easy hike to Au Sable light station.
