Has some of the best hiking trails in Michigan!! Crooked Lake and Potawatomi… excellent signage, well-marked, well-cared for. Bathrooms by the lake still unlocked and clean Nov 1! Spacious parking lots!

Rough primitive camping. Beautiful trails. Great dock on lake which is good for fishing or kayaking. A pair of swans and a pair of blue herons. Only minor co.plaint is compost toilets stank though fresh paper and lotion so clearly staff are mindful. Thank you for this beautiful park.

The area overall is nice on summer. This is a dog welcoming area, yet people think that bringing food and towels to leave them on the ground unattended is ok while dogs are playing. It is a dog friendly area and yet they complain about them and make a big fuss about it. There are no booths to buy a pass yet they want to ticket you due to the lack of information. The trails around the entrance have confusing signs about bicycles forbidden yet people just go with them too fast even though again its a dog friendly area, go farther away if you don't like dogs. The beaches are nice but there are shooting ranges that are too noisy. People with their boats are also very noisy. The rangers only care about not having you enjoy your time just to check your dogs are leashed even though they cannot swim fully leashed. Its a clean park, not that many bugs, but between the rangers and the dog haters, I'll recommend somewhere else on top of what you need to pay. We never ever saw a ranger checking around the trails for safety, and we were there for hours.

Great cross-country esc. mountain biking with high amounts of rooty, gravely, and steep terrain with a variety of intense outwashed uphills to smooth flowing descents. A good place to go if you want a 20mi day ride and still return to your starting place!

This place offers great natural (unpaved) walking trails. They had lots of signage but we did get a little confused on the route at one point. There are lakes, a playground area and lots of grassy areas. The parking was more than adequate on the day we were there. The location we were at had 1 permenant portapotty. It was a nice space regarding the fact that it was not plumbed. The route to get there included some unpaved roads but the lots and roads in the park were paved.

Took my first ride on my daughter and son-in-law's fishing boat. The fish were biting like crazy. The lake was beautiful and the weather was perfect. Very nice lake.

Awesome State Park for fishing, running hiking, walking, birdwatching and if you are a runner, many large paths and small narrow ones. Biking also. This State park is beautiful....highly recommend

It is one of my favorite hiking and trail running spots in Michigan, with an easy 30 min drive from where I live Ann Arbor. Lots of parking and flexibility for distance, with small loops like 4 miles, 8 miles if you include some parts, and up to ~18 miles for the full Potawatomi trail, which I ran once while training for a marathon, it was a great experience, though definitely bring lots of water especially if it's hot, just a couple of spots with fresh water pumps. There's also a great picnic area next to a lake people like to boat in.

Had a super great time tent camping here! Stayed at site H7 and got to hear the frogs croaking through the night, which I loved!! Also, found some good hiking not too far away and found a lot of cool critters (frogs, snakes, woodpeckers, butterfly’s). Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to get out and see some nature

We have always loved this park. We haven't taken a boat out there for years, but did this time. Enjoyed the chain of lakes. However, the sandbar wasn't quite as nice. The amount of trash left behind was horrible. We spent a fair amount of time retrieving cans, glass bottles and a soup can from around the anchored boat. What kind of people do this?? They will no doubt not be the ones to be injured by this trash, it will be someone else. Some people are so disrespectful!☹️

Nice showers. Swim area is not a beach & water is murky from clay deposits but still a nice swimming hole. Rustic site H4 had 0 shade. Looks like they planted a tree, maybe in 10 years there might be some shade.

This campground is just far enough away from metro Detroit to get away but close enough that you won't spend all day driving home. The campground is clean and nice. There is a nice mix of wooded and open grass sites. Bruin Lake is nice and you can rent canoes and kayaks if you call ahead. The only real downside is you will need to travel to a different part of the Pickney Rec Area to hike any trails.
