Pontiac Recreational Area is an amazing place to go out with friends or by yourself. It has a decent sized beach, a great nature trail and tons of scenic sites. The beach is perfect for a picnic, lots of tables and barbecues on the grass. There’s a dog park and fishing piers. This is my go to area for walks or to watch the sunset.

Took the trail to the Scenic Overlook. Afterwards, found one tick on me and several on the dog. They do have ample signage warning of ticks in the area. The brush at the Scenic Overlook is overgrown and needs to be trimmed, so one can see the lake and the fence needs to be fixed. Between the shooting range and close proximity to the airport, this park felt noisy to me. The public use areas and bathrooms seem to be clean and well maintained. The nature is beautiful.

Journey with the Jakes

It's not a destination campground but it is nice enough. The playground is not a playground. It is two swings. Roads coming in and inside the campground are not maintained. Pretty rough. A few overgrown trees that I had to drive on the grass to avoid along with low branches. I'm in a 44' fifth wheel and I navigated ok but it was still tight with the overgrowth. 50amp site was great on 124.

I love this park!! So many trails and options. However, I will say that the atmosphere in the dog park has turned gloomy. Too many negligent people with out of control and aggressive dogs here now. No respect...I do HIGHLY recommend this park overall though, just skip the dog park and opt in for a trail!! We'll worth it!

Great campground, Great staff. Beach is very nice. NO NOISE CONTROL! Cussing and swearing at the top of their lungs to be heard over their blasting 3 foot tall speaker. Ruins it all. Morning till late at night!!

Pontiac Lake is a beautiful campground. Well cared for, super friendly staff, and clean restrooms. The hiking is really great!

Great lake but not one of the Great Lakes. Has islands, a float plane, a peninsula with a short portage across a road for paddlers and lots of nice houses and yards. The beach is nice and a good place to watch private planes and jets taking off. Clean water and Great paddling.

We tried to hike the 10 mile mountain bike trail. We don't know how to read maps and used our phones to take us on a detour so we didn't get lost. Ended up walking 8 miles total. We will definitely be back in the fall when it's not so buggy!

A great place for family time at either rhr campground side vs day use side with the beach. Campground has a lot of variety of campsite size and hook ups. Bathrooms are well kept but a little on the older side (seems like). Downside, very little extra parking. In between sections so many miles of heavily wooded trails to choose from. Day use side is HUGE with ample parking, picnic spots and plenty of beach. Beach is very clean and lots of frontage for swimming. Awesome for large families.

Beautiful hiking trails. We combined the (totally empty) hiking, biking and equestrian trails, but got lost a little on the latter. We could easily back up onto another trail though, so that wasn’t really a problem :) I quite missed a scenic overview on the trails, we got to a higher level, but the trees unfortunately blocked the views of the lake. The trails must be wonderful in spring and summer (and offering a lot of natural shade as well). We will definitely come back here when it is warmer and then also bring our bathing suits and some BBQ!!!

Cool spot for everyone. Dog park is awesome.. beaches looked amazing and the gun ranges were very cool. Enjoyed it 👍

My husband and I visited the firing range today for some target practice. I really enjoyed the experience. Because I had never visited before, I was worried I would make a mistake or break rules. The Range Safety Officer (Range Master?) was very kind and patient and explained everything to me. I was very impressed with his patience and knowledge. He even spent time helping me improve my skills (a lot!!). Thanks for the great visit!
