Prophetstown is a small village located in Whiteside County, Illinois. It is situated on the banks of the Rock River, about 10 miles south of the city of Sterling. The village was founded in 1836 by the Prophet, a Native American leader of the Sauk and Fox tribes. The village was a major center of Native American culture and commerce in the 19th century.

Today, Prophetstown is a quiet, rural community with a population of about 1,000 people. The village is home to a variety of businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a restaurant, and a few small shops. The village also has a public library, a post office, and a few churches. The village is also home to a number of parks and recreational areas, including a golf course, a swimming pool, and a campground.

A friendly place to take a nice bike ride, walk the trails, or go fishing and release them back. Very nice community camping area. Alot to see and explore. Beautiful place for a picnic with plenty of grills and playground equipment for the kids.

This place was full of music and drunks. People kept walking through my campsite. Looking in my camper! Someone walked by my window after darks and yelled they liked my set up. One drunk actually parked in the road and walked into my campsite to see what I was cooking. The sites are on top of each other.  This place needs managed.  This is the worst state park I have ever stayed at.

I don't know why every time we come here, there's literally poop somewhere. Whether it's on the trash can or wiped on the walls, in either the men's or women's restroom. I came out the bathroom to 2 workers reading a bacteria water paper taped to the restroom doors. They swept everything on the floor and pushed it outside to the entrance so if was full of trash. They never actually clean the toilets or the bathroom. There's always gross stuff stuck to the seats.

Small, friendly, close together spots. Tent side camping next to river, electric sites across from tent sites in center. Two sites share one electric pole...two plugs one pole lol...33 & 34 have the same pole, 35 & 36 share, etc. It made for interesting hookup since our plug was on the wrong side of our trailer.
Still, quiet, not very overly populated, very pleasant.

This is one of my favorite State Parks. It is very clean. There are so many places to visit within the park. The campgrounds are awesome! The sites are all handicapped accessible and very large. Very much enjoyed Prophetstown State Park and will be back!

I absolutely love this park! It’s my favorite place in Greater Lafayette. My family and I come here often—for various events and just for fun. We enjoy the splash park, the playground, and the overall friendly atmosphere.

One of the highlights was visiting the nearby farm. It’s such a fun and amazing place where you can see and pet different animals, ride on a tractor, dance square dances, and enjoy delicious burgers, hot dogs, and refreshing lemonade. The live music made the experience even better.

A perfect spot for family time, great memories, and lots of fun!

Very large nature area with many different walking and biking trails, bridges and a nice boardwalk with REALLY incredible views..Trail 3 is definitely a decent hike for beginners but the views are incredible! Especially where the Tippecanoe and Wabash Rivers converge, the view was a must-see! Only downside is restrooms could use a little updating/better maintenence but overall definitely a place for excellent adventures and leisure!

I have been coming here for over 50 years.  The 4th of July use to be the place to be.   People would come from all over and the park would be full.   Live music would be set up in the back by the tree line with thousands of people listening.  Now it was up at the road in the blazing sun with maybe 50 people.   Food trucks weren't allowed in unless they get a commission.   It's not maintained like it was.   Weeds line the river front.   Fallen trees left. Fire pits not cleaned out. Out houses rotting away.  Power service needs updated.  5 street light have been out for at least 3 years.  It is too be full on the weekends with campers and tents.   Lucky to see 4 campers during the week. A once beautiful park fading away. The host, Colleen, and Bill are the best part of the park.

This park was amazing - so beautiful and peaceful. Lots of animals at the farm, great water park with slides, lazy river and splash pad. They offered concessions and also water walking in the lazy river after the pool closed. Paved bike paths all over the park. Awesome park!

first time visiting the park and i was impressed. i was looking for a place where i could fish and my son could play and this place was perfect.  we took a short walk along the river through the park and found a little spot where the kids could wade and plat for a few minutes. the park was very clean and well taken care of.  my only suggestion would be a cpl trash cans by the playground next to the camping area. i picked up a bit of trash from the playground and had to walk quite a way to get to a trash can

Enjoyed our morning coffee watching the lazy river flow by. Absolutely beautiful campground with well maintained sites.  All the sites are open to each other, but respectfully spaced. Great for group camping.  Restroom/shower was immaculate & cheery.  Hiking trails.
Leashed pets ok with owner responsible clean up expected. Very reasonable rates.

Went to fish for a bit, saw several fish but didn't hook anything.
Found some fossils from 500 million years ago when illinois was covered by a shallow tropical sea

Very nice camp grounds.  Enjoyed our stay.  The knats and mosquitoes were really bad, but that has nothing to do with the campsite.
