Prophetstown
Overview
Prophetstown State Park stands out as one of Indiana's most unique natural preserves, offering a vast landscape defined by restored tallgrass prairie and wetlands. Located where the Tippecanoe and Wabash Rivers meet, this park provides a sense of open space that is rare in the Midwest. Unlike many older state parks, it features modern infrastructure and expansive views, making it a premier destination for those who appreciate both nature and comfort.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just outside West Lafayette, the park offers a peaceful retreat while remaining close to urban conveniences. The surrounding landscape is a beautiful tapestry of wildflowers and prairie grasses that change with the seasons. Its proximity to the Wabash River creates a lush environment for local wildlife, providing birdwatchers and nature photographers plenty of opportunities to explore the scenic riverbanks and wooded edges.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground is particularly popular among RVers because it offers Full Hookup Sites, a luxury not found in many state-run facilities. The park includes several convenient features for guests:
- Level paved pads with 30/50 amp service and water connections.
- Access to the Prophetstown Aquatic Center, featuring a leisure pool and water slides.
- Modern restrooms, hot showers, and a seasonal dump station.
Additionally, the park is home to The Farm at Prophetstown, a unique living history farm that showcases early 20th-century agriculture and sustainable gardening.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Beyond the park boundaries, travelers can explore the Tippecanoe Battlefield Memorial, located just a short drive away in the town of Battle Ground. For those seeking cultural experiences, the vibrant campus of Purdue University offers museums, botanical gardens, and sporting events. Within the park itself, miles of hiking and biking trails allow visitors to immerse themselves in the quiet beauty and Native American history of the Indiana prairie.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal choice for family RV travelers who want a mix of outdoor education and recreational fun. Because of the spacious sites and available utilities, it is also a top pick for big-rig owners who prefer the tranquility of a state park over a crowded commercial resort. History enthusiasts and nature lovers will find the cultural heritage and ecological restoration efforts deeply rewarding throughout their stay.

A friendly place to take a nice bike ride, walk the trails, or go fishing and release them back. Very nice community camping area. Alot to see and explore. Beautiful place for a picnic with plenty of grills and playground equipment for the kids.

This is one of my favorite State Parks. It is very clean. There are so many places to visit within the park. The campgrounds are awesome! The sites are all handicapped accessible and very large. Very much enjoyed Prophetstown State Park and will be back!

I absolutely love this park! It’s my favorite place in Greater Lafayette. My family and I come here often—for various events and just for fun. We enjoy the splash park, the playground, and the overall friendly atmosphere. One of the highlights was visiting the nearby farm. It’s such a fun and amazing place where you can see and pet different animals, ride on a tractor, dance square dances, and enjoy delicious burgers, hot dogs, and refreshing lemonade. The live music made the experience even better. A perfect spot for family time, great memories, and lots of fun!

Very large nature area with many different walking and biking trails, bridges and a nice boardwalk with REALLY incredible views..Trail 3 is definitely a decent hike for beginners but the views are incredible! Especially where the Tippecanoe and Wabash Rivers converge, the view was a must-see! Only downside is restrooms could use a little updating/better maintenence but overall definitely a place for excellent adventures and leisure!

This park was amazing - so beautiful and peaceful. Lots of animals at the farm, great water park with slides, lazy river and splash pad. They offered concessions and also water walking in the lazy river after the pool closed. Paved bike paths all over the park. Awesome park!
