Reserve Faunique Mastigouche/Lac Saint-Bernard

Overview

The Lac Saint-Bernard campground, nestled within the expansive Réserve faunique Mastigouche, offers a profound connection to the Quebec wilderness. Managed by Sépaq, this destination focuses on preserving the integrity of the Mauricie region’s ecosystems while providing a peaceful retreat for campers. It is a place where the sounds of the forest replace the hum of city life, characterized by pristine lake views and dense, vibrant woodlands.

Location & Surroundings

Located near Saint-Alexis-des-Monts, QC, the park is situated in a region famous for its undulating hills and over a thousand individual bodies of water. The surroundings of Lac Saint-Bernard are defined by sugar maple groves and yellow birch forests that change beautifully with the seasons. This area serves as a gateway to the deep woods, offering a rugged landscape that feels worlds away from the urban corridors of Montreal or Quebec City.

Amenities & Park Features

As a wilderness-focused destination, the amenities at Lac Saint-Bernard cater to those who appreciate a rustic experience. The park provides well-spaced sites that accommodate RVs, though many are unserviced sites better suited for self-contained units. Travelers have access to communal washroom facilities including showers and toilets. Each site typically features a picnic table and a fire ring, and boat rentals are often available at the registration center for lake access.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is the primary draw, with native brook trout fishing being a signature activity on the lake. For those who prefer land-based adventures, the Six-Chutes trail offers a scenic hike through the forest to breathtaking waterfalls. Visitors can also rent canoes or kayaks to explore the calm waters of the lake, providing excellent opportunities for wildlife photography and birdwatching in a truly undisturbed habitat.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal match for outdoor enthusiasts and anglers who prioritize nature over commercial luxury. It is best suited for self-sufficient RVers who enjoy dry camping and a slower pace of life. If you are looking to disconnect from technology and immerse yourself in the quiet solitude of the Canadian woods, Lac Saint-Bernard provides the perfect authentic backdrop for your next adventure.

Beautiful park and amazing camping ground. Has spots for tents or RVs and ready to camp cabins. Easy access to lake, clean, and nice bathrooms with hot water showers.

Unable to have someone on the phone since 6:30 p.m. when all offices and reception areas describe themselves as open until 9:30 p.m. A campsite reservation which indicates as a maximum arrival 22:00 (it is AFTER reservation that you are aware of this important detail) to finally learn from another reception desk in the area (bottle lake being the only one who answers the phone ) that it is actually 9:00 pm the maximum hour for arrival and that if you do not arrive on time you simply do not get to your location. We will try to contact someone again….
