Richard Bong State Rec area is a very nice Natural Area with well-maintained campsites that are decently secluded from each other and a nice grassy trail system which is great for walking hiking or even biking

Our campsite (#307) was literally on a hill, which the pictures don't show. We had to set up our tent on the only flat ground available, the gravel parking pad. Luckily we have a roof top tent because staking a ground tent would've been impossible. Also, there is nothing to do. There is hiking and a beach, but you have to drive a long distance to both. The bathrooms and showers were pretty nice.

Great variety of wild life. Beautiful trails. Friendly staff and camp hosts.

The place is really beautiful, however I wish the horse trails did not intersect with people trails. Our dog decided to roll around, but it was in a big pile of horse poop?! Don’t forget your bug spray! You are in & out of woods. They have different length trails, some are 1-2 miles, some are 4-8 miles. The visitor center has a lot of really cool animals that were stuffed, along with a few live ones, like the turtles.

I can only speak for Sunrise side but we plan on going back to check out Sunset which I believe is newer. The good: The sites are heavily wooded, so even though you're not miles away from your neighbors, you cannot see them. (Check pics). It's basically like you have your own backyard in the woods. The camp host was amazing. Rhonda and I forget her husband's name. Very informative and accommodating. The girl at the front gate and the DNR folks were super nice. Everything is super clean. (Help keep it that way). Everyone is QUIET. If you're here to party, you picked the wrong place. Kick back and enjoy nature. The bad; The bike trails have several missing markers and we ended up blocked by two downed trees. There is no water on there, so come prepared. The one well we found was dry. Overall, we will be back to check out the other side of the park. For the price, I would call our weekend a win

First time here, nice park. Hope they get shower area fixed soon.....we like to check out parks beforehand to see our site, didn't get to do that this time....site 215 is narrow for a 40 foot trailer but lots of other roomy sites. Have already made a reservation for September.

Yes, the name is hilarious. We came here because it had a funny name, but we stayed because of the beauty of this wetland. There was a play area that was fun for both adults and kids. There is a beach area that I plan to check out next time I'm in the state. I highly recommend coming to the park of the funny name.

Well run, clean and big recreation area! Great for hiking lots of trails and it made fishing look fun! Great place not far from the city but feels like it.

Great stop about halfway between Milwaukee and Chicago. The 4 mile loop around the lake is a nice, mostly flat mix of open prairie and woods. Starts and ends with a nice boardwalk, and due to the flatness in the area is great to catch sunsets with an expansive horizon. There are a mix of trails of varying lengths, and is open to hikers, horseback, cross country, and biking on the portion north of the highway. The trails are enjoyable and have something to offer with each season of the year. If you are like me, you’ve driven by while on 94 and chuckled briefly at the name. If you enjoy hiking and the great outdoors, do yourself a favor and stop by if in the area.
