If you are looking for a day trip- I suggest Gaberville, CA. Richardson Grove State Park is Magical!! The Redwoods and Sequoias are historic, healthy, and colorful. The park transcends you into a different realm of the world. The air is crisp, clean and virtuous. The park is very clean with plenty of parking. The drive from the Bay Area is scenic. Bring water, snacks or food.

So beautiful, tons of different types of redwood imperfections and sizes!

Richardson Grove SP is not for everyone. Easy access, things to do, & small. Sorta like glamping, or just a destination. State Parks has a detailed map.

Love taking the family camping here. Good for families with smaller children. Water is calm and easy walk or drive to the river.

This is another beautiful area of redwoods. We stopped by the visitor's center and it was really nice. It used to be a lodge and has that look and feel. There's a shop inside one area and some displays in other areas. It is a really neat historical location.

This place is awesome! I can't believe it's not getting enough bookings to open the Oak Flat campground. This campground is right on 101 with great Eel River swimming spots. More than half of their sites have been closed since covid due to lack of bookings. Let's get this place filled so we can get Oak Flats reopened!

It's like being in an enchanted forest.... Surreal, ethereal and unique experience. We went here during low tourist traffic season and it's the time to visit as a Californian. It's an escape from the hustle bustle of city life and was quite and peaceful. You could hear your rushing thoughts in the beautiful silence surrounded by giant redwoods... Gorgeous day spent!!!!

If magic and fairys exist they exist here. It is beautiful and has wonderful hikes to go on and a great swimming hole. The visitor center is cozy and informative with a few snacks and cute gifts and a lovely backgammon set in front of a fire place that we enjoyed. I've been taking my kids there for 20 years and they love it every year. From babies just staring up at the trees to kids zipping along the campground on their bikes to jumping off the big rocks at the swimming hole as teenagers/ young adults. It's great for all ages! They are serious about the 10pm quiet time so if you are looking to party it isn't the place. Great for families and those looking for a quiet camping trip (although there is some freeway noise)
