Richardson Park (Lane County Park)

Overview

Richardson Park offers a quintessential Pacific Northwest escape on the scenic shores of Fern Ridge Reservoir. Managed by Lane County, this well-maintained destination combines lush forest environments with expansive water access, making it one of the region's most popular spots for summer recreation. The park is defined by its towering Douglas fir trees and wide-open grassy spaces, providing a park-like atmosphere that feels both organized and deeply connected to the natural beauty of the Willamette Valley.

Location & Surroundings

Located just a few miles west of Junction City, OR, and roughly 15 miles from the vibrant city of Eugene, the park sits on the eastern edge of the valley’s largest lake. The surrounding landscape is a blend of fertile agricultural lands and protected wetlands. Visitors will find themselves nestled in a serene lakeside setting where the sounds of the water and local birdlife replace the noise of the highway, offering a peaceful retreat that remains close to urban conveniences.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground at Richardson Park features 88 sites, many of which are equipped with water and electrical hookups to accommodate modern RVs. On-site facilities include a sanitary dump station, restrooms with coin-operated showers, and a seasonal concession stand. For those bringing watercraft, the park offers a massive four-lane boat ramp and a protected marina. Land-based amenities include multiple playgrounds, volleyball courts, and extensive picnic areas that are perfect for large family gatherings under the shade of mature trees.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw is the reservoir itself, which is a premier destination for sailing and windsurfing due to its reliable afternoon winds. Anglers frequently visit the park to fish for bass and crappie from the shore or by boat. Nature lovers should not miss the nearby Fern Ridge Wildlife Area, a haven for migratory birds and local fauna. Additionally, the park serves as an excellent home base for exploring the Willamette Valley wine country, with several renowned tasting rooms located just a short drive away in the countryside.

Who This Park Is Best For

Richardson Park is an ideal choice for active families and boaters who prioritize easy water access and recreational variety. It is equally suited for nature photographers and birdwatchers who want to be near the wetlands. Because of its proximity to Eugene, it is also a top pick for travelers attending events at the University of Oregon who prefer the quiet, natural ambiance of a lakeside campground over an urban RV park.

I love camping there. The campsites are nice. The bathrooms are clean and showers warm. There's a playground and a wide sidewalk around the lake. I wish there was a sandy beach in the swim area instead of sloped concrete. Also, the spots up against the road are noisy all night. I've camped here before though, and will camp here again. Just glad they were able to accommodate us with short notice 🙂

Camped in a shady spot. Caught some fish and did plenty of walking around the lake. Good times!

Camp B was awesome! I recommend reserving a site on the B side, the host Joe does a fantastic job of keeping everything on B side in tip top condition. The showers are kept in much better condition than A side, the restrooms are in great functional order AND showers are open an hour longer than the other side. Our host, Joe (and his lovely wife as well), was far more than just a camp host, he wanted to speak to the campers, get to know everyone, help, and allow everyone to have fun an enjoy their time. He loaned my family fishing poles and bait to use at the marina and even showed us the best spot to fish, offered to take us out on the boat he owns and really made us feel welcome, like family would. My kids demanded we return to the B side because “Joe is sort of like another grandpa”. The park has a swing set on A side, and over 100 sites most of which you can park an RV in. There are fewer tent only sites but there are plenty of them. All RV/Tent sites have a water hookup and electric hookup, the tent sites do not have either. There are sites that are fully shaded, partially shaded and a couple near the showers and restrooms that are not shaded, but the grass is green, and there’s no mud to trudge through.
