Nice campground with beautiful scenery. Just understand that the water level of the lake might be very low or dry. In Oct 2025, over half the lake was dry. The other half was extremely low so if you are counting on boating activities, call the park before confirming your plans.

Nice clean park, we stay on the lower loop with hot showers and flush toilets. Campsites spacious, paved with a covered shelter and fire pit. Don’t miss Rifle Falls SP just a few miles north. Hard working host. And frequent uniformed rangers visit. The town of Rifle is a few minutes away and has all you need.

Great place to go efoiling or paddle boarding or kayaking. If you are a boater and the water is lower at the end of season it is a little small. Both ends are shallow. They must use the water for irrigation. The bonus is that within 18 miles is the grand hogback mountain biking trails which seem better than Fruita and vie to challenge a lot of Moab much more great trails than McCoy flats too You have to like flow trails in order to appreciate them. Also the town of Rufke has occasional live music and provisions. It is nearby. One of the best weeks ever

Rifle Gap State Park is a truly breathtaking environment offering the best of what camping offers — cleanliness, photoworthy views, and enough space for an entire cohort of family and friends. As I experienced throughout my three nights at the state park, the views are absolutely stunning with plenty of sunrises and sunsets, crystal views of the lake only a short walk away, and occasional wildlife to take pictures of. Moreover, I am thoroughly impressed by the cleanliness, especially concerning the restrooms and shower services that the campground allows access to. Not only were there zero bugs or other vexing flies, but the park offers a warm shower and even a soap dispenser. The lake offers a perfect opportunity to paddleboard or boat on with calm, relaxing water and plenty of area to explore. WARNING: Watch out for magpies — black and white intelligent birds — as they easily steal food and trash. If you pick up after yourself, they shouldn’t be a problem.

June 8, 2024 Camped Friday night to Saturday morning! June 7, 2024 Ashley and I headed out after work on a Colorado weekend camping and road trip! Our first stop was Blair Ranch Rest Stop, then went to Glenwood Springs and had dinner at Slope & Hatch and got dessert at Smoke BBQ. After we drove to Rifle Gap State Park to camp for free on the public lands! June 7 & 8, 2024 our beautiful view of Rifle Gap Lake and Sunset from our free camping spot! The next morning we drove over to Rifle Falls State Park Colorado!

A bit off the beaten path, located just North of Rifle Colorado, the Rifle Gap State Park surrounds the Rifle Gap Reservoir. In addition to the lake offering boating, fishing, swimming opportunities the state park has a visitor center, with gift shop and campgrounds.

Great park. Super helpful staff. We reserved a spot up on the hill, but wanted to be closer to the lake. Called the front office and they were more than happy to move us closer to the lake. The camp spot was immaculate and raked like a Japanese garden. Will definitely return!

It wasn’t too crowded on weekdays. Bugs were at a minimum, temps weren’t too high. Clean beaches. One concern was that it’s a relatively small reservoir that allows motorized boats- there are buoys and designated areas for kayaks and swimmers but the wakes from the motorized boats still impact the areas it shouldn’t. Otherwise, thumbs up.

The park was not very crowded with only a boat or two on the water. We took our kayaks out and had the most relaxing afternoon! The park is so clean. The water is absolutely beautiful and clear. Stunning views. I will be going back many times this summer!

Rifle Gap State Park is a nice, clean park and lake that makes for a great weekend getaway to camp, grill, fish, paddleboard, and canoe. The views are beautiful, the location is easy to access, and pets are welcome. Make a reservation in advance, and once you are there, drive around to write down campsites that appeal to you for future visits. Bring your toys and provide various activities to keep you busy if you plan on staying a few nights. Or just enjoy nature and hang out at your campsite. Respect the park and clean up your mess.
