We have stayed here before and had a wonderful experience, which made this visit especially disappointing. Since the property changed ownership, our experience was completely different, and unfortunately we will not be returning.

We booked our stay online, accurately disclosed the number of people and pets, and drove more than 800 miles to get there. Our first night was great. The employee who checked us in was friendly, helped us get situated at our site, and answered all of our questions.

The following morning, however, the new owner, Christina, approached our campsite in a very confrontational manner. Her first words were, “Oh no, I’m going to have to charge you for two sites.” She then told us we couldn’t have our dogs and became increasingly rude throughout the conversation.

She explained that she was trying to set up new glamping tents and had already turned away other campers because, according to her, we were taking up too much space. This was confusing because the site we reserved was advertised as 100’ x 50’, and our setup occupied only a small portion of that area at approximately 20’ x 30’.

When I tried to explain that our reservation and site description matched what we had booked, she interrupted me and said she didn’t care because she was the owner and made the rules.

At that point, we decided we no longer wanted to stay. We informed her that we would be checking out and requested a refund since we were unable to receive the accommodations we had reserved under the terms presented at booking. She told us she would refund what we had paid and walked away. Given how the interaction had unfolded, I recorded that conversation.

Later that day, she sent me a text stating that she would not be issuing a full refund after all. Rather than continue arguing, I filed a chargeback with my credit card company.

It’s unfortunate because we genuinely enjoyed this campground under its previous ownership. Based on this experience, however, I cannot recommend it. If you’re considering staying here, be aware that your experience may be very different than reviews from before the ownership change.

Great location in walking distance to town and attractions.  Very helpful and friendly staff and owner.  They gave us directions to some beautiful places to visit.  We extended our stay because we wanted to see more of the trails with fall colors.

River Fork is a great camping spot. I read reviews of hookups being misplaced, but we did  not have that problem at all. Hosts guided us into our spot and everything went smoothly.  The spaces are not huge but there is plenty of room to sit outside of your camper. The location is great. A short walk over a pretty foot bridge and you are at an awesome park that is huge. Our dog loved that. The river runs along the park and there  is a beautiful river walk which runs through town. Walking distance to all of Lake City. We had a great experience here.

Do not recommend this campground. Come here if you are retired and go to bed around 7. We were told multiple nights to quiet down at only 8pm. There is no clear quiet time posted anywhere. We were also told our ATV’s were too loud which is strange because the whole town is based around the ATV trails (Alpine Loop). Sites are tight and sewage and water was far from hookups. DO NOT come if you have an RV that is longer than 40ft. The hosts were not nice from the start and honestly had no care for us to be there.

$20 thru hiker special is the best value I’ve ever got for my money. They gave me a place to pitch my tent, loaner clothes to wear while I washed mine and an excellent shower. Hiker box plus jigsaw puzzles and books if you’re bored.

I camped in my tent here during a thru-hike of the Colorado Trail. The amenities were exactly what I needed as a hiker/backpacker and the staff were super friendly and helpful. The price was very reasonable.

We tent camped here, it exceeded our expectations! Super friendly staff, free laundry, bathrooms, showers, everything we needed before and after hiking. We will be back!

Extremely friendly owner. $20 for hikers to pitch their tents, do their laundry, and shower. This includes soap, shampoo, a washrag, and a towel. Great location within easy walking distance to restaurants and stores. This is the place to stay for CT hikers.

if you're looking to camp here you've made a great choice. the sites are large, everyone is friendly and you can easily walk to two. Plenty of room for your ATV also. Joe was friendly and helped us with any question we had.

Best hosts ever, treat you as a family. Not fancy but you have everything you need: bathrooms with showers, laundry room, charging space for all devices,  covered tables area to sit down and read a book or play a game or chat with people, dishes washing sinks. Beautiful river near by and walking distance to Lake City Town to get some souvenirs,  the best ice cream or coffee in the whole colorado or a dinner. Love this place. Will definitely come back.

Best little hideaway spot in Lake City for a little chill time by converging creeks. Small beach area with chairs makes it perfect.
