Overview

Riverside Park Campground is a municipally operated facility located in the heart of Vanderhoof, British Columbia. Situated along the banks of the Nechako River, this park offers a peaceful setting for travelers traversing the Yellowhead Highway. It combines the convenience of city amenities with the natural beauty of the northern interior. The park is well-regarded for its clean facilities and its role as a central hub for community recreation and local history, providing a welcoming atmosphere for those exploring the region.

Location & Surroundings

The campground is located on the north side of Highway 16, providing easy access for those traveling between Prince George and Prince Rupert. The defining feature of the location is the scenic riverfront, which flows adjacent to the camping sites. Surrounding the park are lush green spaces and the Nechako Bird Sanctuary, a critical stopover for thousands of Canada geese during their seasonal migrations. This creates a serene atmosphere where nature is always within sight, despite being close to urban conveniences.

Amenities & Park Features

RVers can choose from a variety of site types, including those with full hookups and more basic options for those seeking a rustic experience. The park is equipped with modern conveniences like flush toilets and hot showers to ensure a comfortable stay. Families often appreciate the on-site spray park and playground, which keep children entertained during the warmer summer months. For maintenance needs, there is a convenient sani-dump station available for guests to use before continuing their journey through British Columbia.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

One of the primary draws is the Vanderhoof Community Museum, which is located right next to the campground. Visitors can explore heritage buildings and learn about the region’s pioneer history through immersive exhibits. Nature enthusiasts will enjoy the Riparian Trail, a scenic walking path that winds along the riverbank and offers excellent birdwatching opportunities. Additionally, the downtown core of Vanderhoof is within walking distance, making it easy to stock up on supplies or enjoy a meal at a local cafe.

Riverside Park Campground in Vanderhoof is a peaceful spot right by the Nechako River — perfect if you want nature without being too far from town. I liked how easy it was to walk to shops and grab a bite, yet still feel tucked away. The sites are well-maintained, and having water and electricity hookups is a big plus. Washrooms and showers were clean during my stay, and the free Wi-Fi at the office was a nice touch. On the downside, the campground can get busy during peak season, and some sites feel a bit close together. Also, if you're looking for deep wilderness, this is more of a hybrid spot. Still, it’s a solid choice for a relaxed, convenient camping experience.

Cheap over priced spot with only power . Washrooms totally terrible access to disabled people . Stayed in many B.C. Forestry campgrounds 10 times better . But was a spot to crash and Richard the Host was whitey and Humorous and made up for it Chef D .

Hesitated to come here because of the previous reviews but very glad I did. Completely safe, no issues with any homeless, all of the bathrooms and showers are locked with code so no one but guests can get in. Big private sites, next to park with a great playground for kids.

I went to stay here but unfortunately upon check-in the gentleman checking me in told me how awful the place was and that I needed to lock everything up make sure to keep everything inside my motorhome or it could be stolen also that there'd be heroin needles found in the bathroom so I went to my campsite thought about this information and decided it'd be smarter to drive 30 minutes down the road lost $ but probably a smarter decision

Very friendly host and clean campsites. The showers are a bit rough. Had a bit of a strange vibe with random people (non-campers) walking through the grounds. When we checked out we were told that it’s best to keep all your stuff locked away due to the theft, homelessness and drug use in the area and under the bridge at the back of the campground. The neighbouring park is really beautiful and fantastic for kids. We had booked two nights but moved on after one due to the vibe and RCMP being there to manage the homeless and foot traffic.
