Riverside RV Park (formerly Wilderness Expeditions RV Park)
Overview
Riverside RV Park, formerly known as Wilderness Expeditions RV Park, serves as a tranquil home base for travelers exploring the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Nestled along the banks of the Arkansas River, this park provides a classic Colorado experience that emphasizes natural beauty over excessive resort-style frills. It is a well-maintained property that captures the rugged charm of the region while providing the essential infrastructure needed for a comfortable extended stay in the high desert environment.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in Salida, Colorado, the park benefits from a prime position near the Arkansas River. The surroundings are defined by dramatic mountain peaks and the high-altitude landscape that makes the Upper Arkansas Valley a premier outdoor destination. Guests are positioned close enough to the historic downtown area of Salida to enjoy local dining and shopping while remaining far enough away to appreciate the sound of rushing water and the stillness of the mountain nights.
Amenities & Park Features
The park is designed to accommodate various types of travelers with a focus on convenience and functionality. Visitors will find full hookup sites that simplify the camping experience, allowing for easy transitions after a long day of driving. The grounds are kept orderly, ensuring that all guests have a reliable utility connection and space to relax outdoors during their visit.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Salida is a gateway to endless recreation. Thrill-seekers often visit for world-class whitewater rafting on the Arkansas River, which runs right past the property. During the cooler months, the proximity to Monarch Mountain makes this a popular stop for skiers and snowboarders. For those who prefer a slower pace, the local hot springs provide a soothing way to recover from a hike or bike ride, while the local arts district offers a vibrant cultural experience.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts who want to be in the center of the action. It is perfectly suited for active retirees and adventure-focused families who prioritize easy access to river activities and mountain trails. If your travel style leans toward an authentic, low-key mountain getaway rather than a high-end luxury resort, this location offers the perfect balance of comfort and proximity to the wild heart of Colorado.

We love Riverside. Electric and water hookups, no sewer. They empty your grey and black tanks every Monday for those that stay through the week or more. Camp host Brad is awesome, attentive, cool and calm, and has a handle on the whole park. The views, the trees, the river, the walks over the bridge to the pavilion by the ponds make Riverside so special. We loved camping around tent campers, people camping out of their cars, and others with RV's like us. Diverse, active guests, and everyone was friendly to each other, respectful. The park is across from all the supplies you need. We would definitely stay here again.

Really clean sites, lots of room. Plenty of grass and trees. Water and electric hook-ups. They come around once a week and empty sewage tanks with their "HONEY WAGON". Great place to stay. I give it 10/10. Camp host Brad was the absolute best. Really nice, and super friendly. We had no problems getting a later check-out because of an appointment at Heart of the Rockies. We will be staying here again!!

As noted in another recent review, this is an older campground. The 30 amp electrical service at site 22 was inadequate to power the AC and refrigerator in our small camper. If we pulled more than 20 amps, the service voltage would drop enough that our EMS would shut off the service. While we were there, ambient temperatures were in the mid-90's, and it was very hot in our camper. The host seemed surprised at our power problems. He did refund us some money to the same price as non-service sites. The staff is very nice and responsive. The shower/bath house is not in the same area as the RV sites, so there is a bit of a hike. The sewage dump site is not conveniently located, and requires RVs to back into it. This can cause quite the traffic jam when attempting to dump. Numerous sites are well shaded and the near the river. I do not plan to stay here again until the campground updates.

Fairly good campground with a tent area for GDMBR cyclists. Brad the camp host is friendly and helpful. The tent area has a covered picnic area, but when the wind is strong it is a wind tunnel. We paid $40 per night which is quite expensive considering the facilities. No water or electricity at the tent area. The showers and toilets are a fair distance away and do not deserve more than 3 stars. Closer to the entrance there is also a covered area (closed on one side so the wind does not blow through) with more facilities such as electricity, a microwave and lighting. You can charge your device here. Wifi available and average at tent area.

We were having RV troubles on our way into Salida from Monarch pass and were scrambling to find a place to spend memorial Day weekend to get our RV looked at by a mechanic. Brad, the campground host was a lifesaver and offered us the old campground host spot for the weekend since they were fully booked. We cannot speak enough of the kindness we were shown by Brad, Wes, and Michelle who work at Riverside RV Park. We enjoyed the serenity of walking along the river and the grounds of the park, while also being so close to all Salida has to offer. We would definitely recommend Riverside RV park to anyone passing through Salida.
