Camped here for the first time. Been fishing there for over 20 years, but haven't been there for 9 years. Paul and Diane ( the host) do a great job taking care of the campsites. We stayed for 4 days. One of my favorite places to go to in Colorado. First come first serve.

Best thing about the place? No atvs in the area. Beautiful views. Nice campsites. Lots of hiking and boating also no motorized on lakes. Saw lots of wildlife. Fox bull moose muskrats white tail and birds. Someone saw a wolf. Hosts are great. Toilets cleaned. BTW do not reserve a site for friends. Not allowed. Makes sense in all first come first serve.

The water was wet, the trees were tall, the mosquitoes were flying, I felt very small.

Bear Lake Campground After seven miles of washboard road down FR900 and CR7 out of Yampa, you arrive at Bear Lake about 9,700 feet. The entire campground (43 sites) is first come first served with no reservations. The sites have good separation between them and most of them are really good sites. Make sure you bring bug spray because the mosquitoes are brutal! I would definitely recommend this campground to anyone that enjoys some seclusion and privacy.

MOSQUITOS. Clouds and hordes and plagues of mosquitos. Even with bug spray on they swarm around you and land on you the whole time you are outside of your tent/camper. The camp sites are beautiful and thick with trees so you don't see your neighbors much but it does make the ground area of the sites a little cramped. The place is absolutely gorgeous, stunning views and greenery. The drive to the campgrpund is mostly paved but the last couple of miles is very rough washboard road and it takes a significant amount of time to traverse it. Ultimately we will not return. We couldn't enjoy the environment with all of the mosquitos.

The setting is gorgeous! Sites have good separation. Very reasonable pricing. Clean bathrooms and helpful host. Road van be rough coming in.
