Amenities & Park Features
RV travelers will find comfortable accommodations within the Class A camping area, which features level pads and electrical hookups. The park provides essential facilities including a sanitary dump station and a modern shower house with flush toilets to ensure a convenient stay. Boaters benefit from a well-maintained concrete boat ramp, though it is important to note the lake’s motor horsepower limits, which help maintain a quiet environment for all visitors.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Water-based recreation is the primary draw here, with the lake being heavily stocked for bass, channel catfish, and sunfish. Hikers can explore over two miles of trails that wind through the timber and offer excellent birdwatching opportunities. Just a short drive away, the city of Newton offers local dining and historical sites, while the Newton Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area is nearby for those looking to expand their fishing or hunting horizons. The park’s proximity to these natural corridors makes it a central hub for outdoor enthusiasts.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for nature lovers and families who prefer a low-key camping experience over a commercial resort vibe. Because of its quiet atmosphere and restricted motor speeds on the water, it is particularly well-suited for retirees and those traveling with small children. It serves as a peaceful home base for anglers looking to spend long days on the water. If you value a scenic, rustic environment where the focus remains on the outdoors rather than on-site entertainment, this state park will fit your travel style perfectly.

Sam Parr State Park is one of our absolute favorites close to home. My youngest requested his fishing birthday party out there this year. We had rented a pavilion to host the party at. It was the perfect place! The pavilion was large and had plenty of electrical outlets for us to use. There were plenty of picnic tables for us to use as well. I would highly recommend this area to anyone who would like to host an outdoor party or event!

Had a great time. There are multiple spots to park, bathrooms, pavilions, playgrounds, trails, open fields and more. The campground is at the end. Great place for the family, kids and dogs.

We camped here the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday before Memorial Day in a tent. We used a site with an electrical hook-up, so we could air up our air mattress. The weather was beautiful. We enjoyed a fire Tuesday night. We covered the grated provided with aluminum foil and cooked smoked sausage. We brought our dog along. There were pit toilets, but no showerhouse. There were nice playgrounds and shelter houses in the campground and the picnic areas. There at least two boat ramps for launching motorboats and kayaks. Bank fishing was available at the picnic areas. I saw a fisherman catch a small bass from a boat. He said he had caught a bigger bass earlier that morning. I came back in the fall and the colors and scenery was awesome.

One of our favorite state park campgrounds. Very well maintained, gorgeous scenery. Close to town for the little things like ice or anything you forgot.
