Sequoia/Lodgepole

RV Park

Overview

Overview

Lodgepole Campground serves as a quintessential basecamp for those exploring the heart of the Sierra Nevada wilderness. Situated along the Marble Fork of the Kaweah River at an elevation of 6,700 feet, this park offers a deep immersion into the natural wonders of Sequoia National Park. While the campground is technically located near Three Rivers, CA, the significant elevation gain provides a cool, alpine escape from the valley heat. It is a premier destination for RVers seeking a genuine connection with the outdoors.

Location & Surroundings

Situated deep within the park boundaries, this location is defined by its dramatic landscapes and ancient groves. Travelers arriving from Three Rivers should prepare for a steep, scenic ascent via the Generals Highway, which offers stunning vistas before entering the high-altitude forest. The campground itself is nestled among towering lodgepole pines and large granite outcroppings, providing a rugged and serene atmosphere. The nearby river provides a constant, peaceful soundtrack for guests staying in this high-country setting.

Amenities & Park Features

Lodgepole is a traditional dry-camping facility, meaning there are no electric, water, or sewer hookups at individual sites. However, the park is well-equipped to handle the needs of modern RVers with several key features:

  • A central dump station and potable water filling station for self-contained rigs.
  • Large metal bear boxes at every site, which are strictly required for all food storage.
  • Access to the seasonal park shuttle system, which simplifies travel to the most popular sights.

Nearby Lodgepole Village provides additional conveniences including a market, laundry facilities, and seasonal pay showers.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Staying at this park puts you at the doorstep of some of the world's most famous natural landmarks. The Tokopah Falls Trail begins right within the campground, offering a moderate hike to a breathtaking 1,200-foot waterfall. A short shuttle ride connects visitors to the General Sherman Tree, the largest living tree on the planet, and the Giant Forest Museum. For those seeking panoramic views, the Moro Rock climb and the Tunnel Log are just a short distance away, making this an ideal hub for exploration.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is perfect for self-contained RVers who value direct access to nature over resort-style amenities. It is a fantastic choice for families and hikers who want to be steps away from world-class trails. Because of the rustic nature and the lack of hookups, it best suits travelers who enjoy a primitive camping style and are prepared for the responsibilities of camping in active bear country. If you want to wake up under a canopy of giants, Lodgepole is an unbeatable choice.

I haven't been to Sequoia National Park in 15 years, and the last time we were here we were on the other side of the park. This time we entered through the Visalia side and planned to see Crystal Cave & go for the Stargazing experience in the evening. Sequoia is a beautiful park. We spent all day in the park. Our Cave tour was at 3pm and our Stargazing was at the lodge at 9pm. They had a separate line at the entrance for guests who prepurchase or had NP passes which was nice and cut down entrance times. Though we only visited a small section of the park on this trip it was all beautiful. We drove around, visited Crystal Cave (advanced tickets required), The General Sherman Tree, Stargazing Night Talk at the Lodge, as well as the general store. We saw some of the biggest trees we have ever encountered. Walked many different trails, saw a beautiful sunset, and spent an hour watching stars with an astronomer who pointed out many constellations and provided insight on them. Overall it was an incredible experience, and I can't wait to be able to explore more at a later date.

Sequoia National Park is beyond words…😍 The beauty here is simply unreal. Standing among these giant trees takes your breath away. No photo can truly capture the feeling of being here. One of the most awe-inspiring places we’ve ever visited🏕️🌲✨

Plan on getting there early. Take plenty of snacks. The hikes are beautiful and fairly easy. There are 3 different buses that take you different locations. Moro rock is an absolute must do! The views are stunning!!!!

Finally I got to visit this much recommended California National Park. It was no doubt one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. The giant sequoia tree forests, rocks, water falls, rivers and other scenery were all worth the drive and wait time in the shuttle line and restrooms. Come visit if you haven’t. We were lucky enough to score two tickets to the newly re-opened Crystal Cave. According to my daughters who were able to go, it was definitely a lot of fun. Book the tickets online at least two days before to secure tickets for your whole group. Tips for a more productive day: start as early as possible. If you can get to the park entrance before 6:00am in summer you can visit all tourist spots and then find parking near the trail heads that you want to visit. Parkings in all places are hard to come by after 11:00am. Lines at the shuttle stops can easily be more than an hour long. So please plan ahead. Plenty of water and food is recommended for a safe trip. Another tip for people like me who prefer a proper restroom: use the restrooms in the museum side not the parking lot side.

Sequoia National Park is absolutely breathtaking! Seeing the giant sequoia trees in person was an unforgettable experience — pictures truly don’t do them justice. The park is peaceful, scenic, and full of incredible hiking trails and viewpoints. The drive through the mountains was beautiful, and spots like General Sherman Tree and Moro Rock were highlights of the trip. Perfect destination for nature lovers, families, and anyone wanting to experience the beauty of California’s outdoors. Highly recommend visiting at least once! Visited on 19th April 2026
