Stayed at a primitive site but left early due to a couple reasons. Firstly, before booking the site I explained to staff I had a 12×12 canvas tent and was concerned if there was decent area to stake it. Turned out not to be the case, best spot had a substantial slope(hard to tell from photo). Kept sliding down on sleeping pad. Secondly, the outhouse looked to be older than me (I'm 50). Feces was within a foot of toilet seat. Went to a second site to use bathroom while fishing. This outhouse had no toilet seat and was completely backed up. Staff were very friendly but if you're looking to stay at a primitive site, you might want to reconsider.

This place was fun. They do shut off the power during the night so keep that in mind on hot summer days. It’s very gorgeous, they have an amazing view.

It’s wayyy out there so a great spot to get away from town. However, the two nights we stayed there was a camper next to us, no one was there all weekend- an alarm on the camper went off from 4:30am - 7am the first night and 2:30-6am. When I told the office about it they checked on the wrong camper, when at check out we told them we came to relax and get away from alarms to have a relaxing weekend they couldn’t do anything to reimburse us for the inconvenience when other campers next to us also heard it. They could have refunded one night and choose not to do anything but shrug.. they knew who owned the camper.. we were also told we had a site on the water, we did not. We usually go to Coos Canyon but they were full up & wanted to try somewhere new. Lesson learned. It was really pretty at South Arm but not worth having that issue again with no attempt to make the situation better. If they reach out I’d be willing to change my rating. But beware camping next to “lifer” campers or Rv’s that are empty.

Good campground with water sites, bathrooms with showers, rent boat or canoe, or bring your own as they have a boat launch and docks where you can rent a slip. Store sells ice and a few other things. Lake water is cooler than most other lakes, refreshing as we say.

Southarm campground in Andover Maine is a great camping experience. Remote sites are clean. Sites are far enough apart for complete privacy. Boat slips at main campground are easy to dock, plenty of firewood for sale. Bathrooms are spotless. Showers are the same. Already making plans for 2026 summer camping trip .

Went there with my family camping over 25 years ago. To me it was the most beautiful place I ever went camping large sandy beach on the lake. Camping near the lake in a tent and mountain views. Canoeing out to Island's kayaking. At night you will be one with the universe, the stars were so bright & scary because you are at the outback in Oxford county the most beautiful county in Maine. You're from the city, you will hear and see the true call of the wild. Getting there driving no more than 30 mph so you can stop fast, faster and you have a good chance of getting hurt from hitting a big mouse or bear, dear. Have lots of fun, don't drink & drive,or anything else cause your a long way from help!

After reading some crappy reviews about this campground, we decided to just go for it and see for ourselves Best decision ever!!!! I don’t know what those other folks who gave lousy reviews had expected, but this place is a slice of heaven! I have spent many years camping and have also worked in a few campgrounds, and never have I seen cleaner bathrooms, spotless at all hours, with floors bone dry! Staff is excellent, sites are beautiful and well maintained , and the lake speaks for itself If you are looking for beauty, serenity and a stunning setting, this is your place If you are looking for “glamping “, keep looking.. This is what real camping is about

LOVED this camp ground, super friendly staff, flexible, and super clean. As a solo female traveler, I felt super safe, loved how the generator was cut to enjoy the night sky. Be aware that as of 2024 they don't accept credit cards, so bring cash. No cell service (which was just what I needed), but they have wifi for $1/day. Will come again!

I cannot believe I failed to leave a review when we visited, so I'm doing that now. My wife and I honeymooned here and it was everything we could ask for. I had spent a trip at South Arm decades prior and when I say the word timeless, that's what South Arm is. I'll never forget my time here and long to get back up and say hello (once our little one is a bit older). Dotty, Leon, Peter and Belinda (I know I'm forgetting some names after 6+ years) were absolutely wonderful and helpful in everything from finding the closest place for supplies to learning how to use an outboard motor for the first time. Peace and quiet. That's what you'll find here. An absolutely unforgettable experience.

A little off the beaten track, but that’s what makes the place so wonderful. The campground is situated on a peninsula so most campsites are on the water. there’s a boat ramp sandy swimming area and the view of the lake is magnificent. Situated on the Lower Richardson lake a very remote area, the campground gets its electricity from a generator which is turned off at 9 o’clock every night. That and the fact there’s no cell phone service, people sit around the campfire at night talking to one another or simply go to bed. I found this very refreshing!

Amazing staff greeted us upon arrival. Some of the friendliest folks we've ever met while camping. Nice, quiet and peaceful campground with beautiful views. Grounds were well kept and bathrooms were spotless. Upon checkout, we booked another week for next year already.

Always a wonderful experience! Great staff. Great site on the much bigger beachfront due to low water from dam repairs.
