St Andrews

Overview

St. Andrews State Park offers a unique blend of coastal beauty and natural preservation on the eastern edge of Panama City Beach. Spanning over 1,200 acres, this park is a sanctuary for RVers seeking a departure from the high-rise atmosphere of the main strip. Here, the focus remains on the emerald green waters and the pristine white dunes that define the Florida Panhandle. After extensive renovations, the campground provides a modern yet rustic basecamp for exploring one of the most popular outdoor destinations in the state.

Location & Surroundings

Situated on a peninsula, the park is bordered by the Gulf of Mexico to the south and St. Andrews Bay to the north. This strategic location offers campers access to both the tranquil bay waters and the rolling surf of the ocean. The surrounding landscape consists of sand pine scrub and coastal marshes, providing a habitat for diverse wildlife. Travelers will find themselves just minutes away from the vibrant dining and shopping of the city while feeling miles away in a protected coastal wilderness.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground features back-in and pull-through sites equipped with water and 30/50-amp electricity. While there are no sewer hookups at individual sites, a convenient dump station is available for all guests. Modern bathhouses with showers and laundry facilities ensure a comfortable stay. Each site includes a picnic table and a grill, perfect for evening cookouts. For those traveling with watercraft, the park offers paved boat ramps and easy access to the bay for a day on the water.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Visitors can enjoy world-class snorkeling near the jetties, where a variety of marine life congregates. The park offers a seasonal shuttle service to Shell Island, an undeveloped seven-mile stretch of beach perfect for shelling and solitude. On-site hiking trails like the Gator Lake Trail provide opportunities for birdwatching and alligator spotting. Anglers often frequent the two fishing piers, while kayakers and paddleboarders can explore the calm, clear waters of the Grand Lagoon.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for nature lovers and families who prioritize outdoor recreation and scenic views over resort-style luxuries. It is a perfect fit for RVers who enjoy birding, photography, and water sports. Because the park can accommodate large rigs up to 45 feet, it attracts a variety of travelers, from solo adventurers in vans to families in Class A motorhomes. It is best suited for those looking to experience the natural side of Florida while maintaining proximity to urban conveniences.

Great park! We camped here and were impressed with the facilities. The entrance gates are well-run with helpful personnel. We enjoyed the beach and the walking trails. Didn't see any alligators at Gator Lake, but we saw a large buck nearby. The camp store hours seemed to be pretty limited, but that could be because it's the off-season. There were nice play facilities near the marina.

Just beautiful! Peaceful. We stayed at the campground there and it was a quick drive to the beach. My family loved it. If city is more your speed, Panama City is right down the beach. The crazy thing is that it is that close but when you're at St. Andrews if feels like it's no where near the tranquil area you're at. We can't wait to go back!

St. Andrews State Park is such a peaceful, family-friendly spot. We took the kids for a beach day and it was perfect—clean, quiet, and not crowded at all. The bathrooms were surprisingly spotless (huge bonus when you have little ones in tow). The kids had a blast playing in the sand, collecting shells, and to their amazement, we even found a tiny white crab while digging! It felt like our own little slice of paradise. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a calm, clean, and kid-friendly beach experience.

We visited for the first time this morning. Got there at 8:00 am, $8 to get in. Drove over to the beach and jetti area. Overcast and a nice breeze made it great to walk and experience the whole area. Apparently they have done and continue to update the park. This is a great place to bring kids and let them swim in the protected area. Very clear, shallow and calm for them to swim. We hiked to the gator pond. A couple recommended downloading the Merling Bird Watching App. It listens for birds and tells you which bird it hears. It was so cool. We hiked all the little paths around the area. Didn't see and gators, but plenty of bird and a couple of deer. We really enjoyed our time and hiking along the shoreline all the way down to the point where so could see Shell Island.

So far we've loved our stay here! The park is beautifully redone. Beach and waterway access is easy. The camping sights that have the best views don't have shade, so you have to make your own, but the constant breeze really keeps you comfortable. The beach is quiet and uncrowded, with clear water and grayish white sand mixed with broken shells. Not a soft as Fort Walton Beach, but the water is just as beautiful but with less sea life and surf. Lots of bicycle riding with seperate lanes and paths in the camp and around. Plenty of hiking trails. The pics with the rocks in front of the water and with the sunrise by the pine tree are from our campsite #83.
