Stariski
Overview
Stariski State Recreation Site offers one of the most stunning roadside vistas in Alaska. Located just north of Anchor Point at milepost 151 of the Sterling Highway, this small but scenic park provides a tranquil resting spot for travelers heading toward the tip of the Kenai Peninsula. While it is a rustic state park, the simplicity of the experience is its greatest draw, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the salt air and coastal wilderness. This park captures the essence of a quiet Alaskan getaway away from the busier commercial hubs.
Location & Surroundings
Perched on a high bluff, the park overlooks the vast waters of Cook Inlet. On clear days, the horizon is dominated by the majestic peaks of the Alaska Range, including the active volcanoes of Mount Redoubt, Mount Iliamna, and Mount Augustine. The surrounding landscape is a mix of spruce forest and coastal scrub, providing a lush green backdrop to the deep blue of the inlet. Its elevated position makes it a premier location for watching the sunset paint the sky over the water, offering a front-row seat to the region's raw geological power.
Amenities & Park Features
This is a traditional dry-camping facility with nine established campsites tucked into the trees. Travelers should note there are no utility hookups available, making it essential to arrive with full water tanks and charged batteries. The park features basic but well-maintained amenities, including vault toilets and a hand-pump for potable water. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring, offering a classic camping experience. Due to the park's layout, it is most comfortable for small to medium-sized RVs seeking a peaceful, intimate environment.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
A short drive south leads to Anchor Point, recognized as North America's most westerly point accessible by highway. Anglers flock to this region for world-class fishing in the Anchor River, which is famous for its king salmon and steelhead runs. For those looking to explore further, the vibrant town of Homer and the famous Homer Spit are only 22 miles away. This proximity allows visitors to enjoy day trips for halibut charters, eagle viewing, or gallery hopping before returning to the quiet solitude of the bluff at Stariski.
Who This Park Is Best For
Stariski is ideal for self-contained RVers who appreciate solitude and spectacular scenery over modern luxury amenities. It is a perfect fit for nature photographers looking to capture the volcanoes or travelers seeking a quiet alternative to the high-traffic campgrounds in nearby Homer. If your travel style favors a peaceful coastal atmosphere and you enjoy the self-sufficiency of boondocking, this small recreation site will be a memorable highlight of your journey through the Kenai Peninsula.

#16.5 Homer 08/10-21 Stariski State Park FF$20p/n Sites 13 & 11 - Verizon worked great. If you want to wake up and go to sleep in sight of three volcanoes and the inlet this is the place to be! Both sites are spacious #13 has room for two tents #11 even more. Hand pump well water smelled like iron and we only used for washing dishes. Trash dumpster by Two vault toilets that were well maintained. Firepits at every site, no bear boxes. Due to the views this is now one of our favorite camping spots. We showered in private luxury while doing our laundry at a laundromat on Main Street. Save U More nearby will save you more and you’ll find many not found in a typical supermarket items. A delight for anyone with celiac’s disease. We were in close proximity to several trails and the beach. Highly recommend the Diamond Trail which is about a 20min drive from campground. Especially enjoyed the privacy and lack of neighbors.

This is a quiet rv campground with some spectacular views! The place is clean and kept up. We had a quiet night. It is a short drive into Homer from here making it perfect to "get away from it all". Overnight prices are super reasonable and the bathrooms are clean. The water pump works well. Will stay here again.

A nice, small, quiet campground with no hookups located about 25 miles north of Homer. Cost was $20/night. We had a great Verizon signal so we had internet, etc. The park is right along the ocean, but on top of a several hundred foot cliff. Stunning views from the cliff edge! There’s beach access a few miles down the road.
