Sunset Point RV Park
Overview
Sunset Point RV Park offers a peaceful retreat at the easternmost point of the United States. Located directly on the shores of Johnson Bay, this park is defined by its stunning coastal vistas and quiet atmosphere. It is the kind of place where travelers come to unplug and witness the raw beauty of the Maine coastline. With a focus on natural scenery rather than commercial frills, it serves as an authentic basecamp for exploring the Downeast region while enjoying waterfront camping at its finest.
Location & Surroundings
The park sits on a peninsula in Lubec, Maine, providing an intimate connection with the local tides. Guests often enjoy the dramatic rise and fall of the Atlantic, which can reach remarkable heights in this specific area of the bay. The surrounding landscape is dominated by rugged cliffs, dense forests, and the refreshing salt air. Because it is situated away from major highways, the site remains remarkably still, punctuated only by the sounds of local seabirds and the movement of the tides against the shore.
Amenities & Park Features
While the setting is rustic and natural, the park provides essential modern comforts to ensure a pleasant stay. Most sites offer full hookups including water, sewer, and both 30 and 50 amp electrical service to accommodate various rig sizes. The layout is designed to maximize views of the water from various vantage points across the property. Essential services like laundry facilities and clean bathhouses are available for long-term travelers, and firewood and ice are typically stocked for those looking to enjoy a classic campfire evening.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Exploration starts at the nearby West Quoddy Head Light, famous for its iconic red-and-white stripes and its status as a national landmark. Just across the bridge lies Roosevelt Campobello International Park on Campobello Island, though a passport is required for the border crossing. Visitors can also hike the scenic trails of the Cutler Coast Public Reserved Land or take a whale-watching tour from the Lubec wharf to see humpbacks and finbacks in their natural habitat during the summer months.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for travelers who prioritize tranquility and nature over resort-style activities or swimming pools. It is a perfect fit for birdwatchers, photographers, and couples looking for a quiet coastal escape from the hustle of more crowded southern Maine ports. Because of its location at the edge of the country, it attracts RVers seeking a slower pace of life. Those who enjoy scenic maritime landscapes and exploring small, historic fishing villages will find this park to be a highlight of their journey.

I’ve been to a couple hundred camp sites at this point and this one has landed at least in my top 10 if not top 5. The location is absolutely unbeatable and the staff is incredibly helpful. All amenities are available on site. Sunset is absolutely breathtaking. The only negative thing I can say is that the showers are on the smaller side, though the water pressure is great and it’s heated on cold nights. This was the highlight of my trip through New England. Also for future stays: wake up early and make the short drive to Quoddy Head State Park for sunrise. It’s absolutely worth it and the Quoddy Head Coastal Trail is a great way to start the day.

This was a great place to stay. We primarily hammock and tent camping which make this place a little more interesting to stay since it rained the night we stayed. There are built up structures that they have a picnic table under and made it much more pleasant because of the weather. This was a great place for the view in the morning! It was gorgeous. The facilities were really nice!

Pull through sites are extremely tight. I watched several drivers struggle to park their campers. Sites 1 through 4 must share a campfire ring precariously placed on a hillside, with no place for seating. Many of the other sites have fire rings and tables across the road. Yes, the price is low but if I wanted to camp like this, I would have stayed in my driveway. Who designed this place?

Super Friendly. Quiet and amazingly beautiful. Felt like we stepped back to a simpler, sweeter time. Clean bathrooms, shower. Very well run with the best vibe. Will definitely stay again.

We stayed at Sunset Point for four days on a friend’s recommendation, and it was exactly what we were hoping for—small, quiet, and super friendly. The owners were great, and one of the main reasons we chose this place was because they bring all the lobster cooking gear right to your site. That experience alone was worth the stay. It was my first time cooking lobster, and the owner took time to walk me through the process, giving me tips and advice. Thanks to him, the lobster cook went off without a hitch, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. If we ever come back to Lubec, we’d absolutely stay here again. In fact, if you're visiting Maine at all, it’s worth adding Sunset Point to your route just for the lobster cook experience—it’s that good.
