Sunset Vista RV Park

Overview

Sunset Vista RV Park offers one of the most coveted camping experiences in Southern California, placing travelers directly on the sands of Huntington Beach. Operating on a seasonal schedule from October through May, this city-owned park provides a front-row seat to the Pacific Ocean. It is less of a traditional wooded campground and more of a dedicated coastal lot designed for those who want to wake up to the sound of crashing waves and fresh salt air. It serves as a premier winter destination for RVers looking to escape colder climates for a beachside retreat.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in the heart of Surf City USA, the park is located just south of the iconic Huntington Beach Pier. The surrounding area is vibrant and active, with the Pacific Coast Highway running right behind the sites. Guests are steps away from miles of wide, sandy beaches and the paved Huntington Beach Bike Trail, which stretches along the coastline. The atmosphere is undeniably urban-coastal, blending the natural beauty of the ocean with the energy of a world-famous beach town.

Amenities & Park Features

The park provides essential conveniences for a comfortable stay on the coast. Sites include water and electric hookups, though sewer connections are not available at individual pedestals. Instead, guests have access to a central on-site dump station included with their stay. The park also features restrooms and hot showers to help wash off the sand after a day in the water. While the sites are paved and closely spaced, the primary amenity remains the direct beach access and shared fire rings located nearby on the sand for evening bonfires.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Beyond the surf, visitors can explore the upscale shopping and dining at Pacific City, located within easy walking distance. The Huntington Beach Pier offers a perfect vantage point for sunsets or watching professional surfers tackle the waves. For those who enjoy active travel, the multi-use oceanfront trail is ideal for cycling, jogging, or skating for miles. Local surf museums and downtown boutiques provide plenty of cultural entertainment within a short stroll from your RV door.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for active beach enthusiasts and surfers who prioritize location above all else. Because of its layout and proximity to the highway, it is best suited for social travelers who enjoy being in the middle of the action rather than those seeking a quiet, secluded retreat. It is a premier choice for coastal travelers looking for Southern California sunshine and the rare convenience of camping right on the edge of the Pacific Ocean in a world-class destination.

I love it here! There is a reason it is hard to get a reservation and that reason is LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. Activities are never-ending You can bike ride all the way to Newport Beach on the bike path. You can have a huge bon fire on the beach at night. There are plenty of places to eat and a CVS is located on the corner in case you have forgotten something. On one of my stays I did hear the loud music from the hotel - but I was able to deal with that.

It is basically a parking lot with stable 20/30/50 amp service and water. There is free access to one dump site for the 50 sites. The back-in sites are limited to 30' RV lengths and are the closest to the beach while the pull-thru sites are limited to 50' and are in the center of the lot. There is additional parking for toads and additional guests. Maybe it was just our luck, but we had no issues with homeless, just be mindful of the e-bikes and scooters, they don't seem to adhere to the posted speed limit or other rules. We camped at Huntington Beach RV Campground in a 25' Class C Motorhome.

What's the best RV spot in Huntington Beach. Amazing views. Homeless population decreased. Close proximity to countless restaurants and shopping. No car needed. Love this place!

Excellent location, great restaurants and shops including luxury outdoor mall right across the street. Pier and shops/restaurants walking distance. Road noise is loud, but to be expected. Middle sites are large.

Very nice but tight RV park. Daytime and weather was great while we were there. Had a great time, but the night turned brutal! The park itself has 10 pm - 6 am noise curfew / quiet time. However, the park being between the beach and the Pacific Coast Highway (Hwy 1) and resort hotels and bars being across the street (PCH) with said Bars playing extremely load....let's say music. There were at least two and maybe a third bar and it seemed like they each were trying to drown-out the "music" from the others till 2 am. This made no sense as the park has a noise curfew but the city doesn't seem to enforce their own noise curfew.
