I wish I could give a better review, but the place was shut down for renovation. Unless I missed something, there was no notification online that it was not open. We drove in, saw most of the park attractions were closed, then left. I was disappointed because I have the Ohio State Parks passport book and this is a park I haven't visited yet. Avoid 2025 and try next year.

Great facilities and staff. The maintenance guy, Casey, went out of his way to make sure things were right for us. He was very responsive and helpful. This was one of our best trips. There's a lot of things to see nearby and plenty to do in the park too. I'm looking forward to returning again some time. Thank you Casey and the rest of the crew that makes the park great!

According to google lens, many of the photos I took here were labeled as in Tennessee!😆 Beautiful place to unplug, 0 cell signals, some algal blooms in the lake, not as bad as most lakes in ohio.

This place is a hidden gem. The sites are endless. The campground is amazing! The staff are so extremely friendly, helpful and welcoming. I met the camp host and she immediately made us feel comfortable. She gave us a bit of history of the camp, and surrounding areas. If you are looking for campground that offers so many activities for all ages as well as offing a place to just sit and relax this is the place! I look forward to coming back to make more memories!

Took a drive from Columbus to go to Tar Hollow beach. Immediately surprised when pulling in, noticing there were only a few cars. Tar Hollow Beach is filled with luscious landscape and plenty of shade for you to throw your park blanket, towels, etc. down. From what I hear, this park isn’t typically packed - which is my favorite part 😍 it’s now 5:30 pm on a holiday and we are the only ones here. Gotta love it!

Primitive sites as you first come in to left are nice, but Tar Hollow has frequent night time traffic, so you’ll most likely hear any vehicles entering or exiting the park. There are primitive first come first serve up by fire tower. Electric sites are nice, either two foundation options (blacktop or grass). Blacktop foundation sites appear to look smaller than grassy foundation sites. Several items available for rental, lots of planned activities through camping season. Beach area is small, clean. There are challenging hiking trails in the park, as well as options near Hocking.

I've never hiked at Tar Hollow State Park before and I didn't know what to expect. I knew the park was only an area of the larger Tar Hollow State Forest. I chose the Ross Hollow Trail. The trail was well marked and maintained. It is a moderate to difficult trail but being in a forest the leaves made it a little more challenging. There are a few switchbacks in the beginning of the trail and a lot of hiking on what seemed to be the rim part of the trail. There isn't the usual gorges and rock formations that you might expect in the area but it is a forest trail. I found it enjoyable and scenic. After finishing the trail, Pine Lake is only a quarter of a mile away so I spent some time walking a path around it. It is a very tranquil lake with great scenery.
