Timber Trails Campground
Overview
Timber Trails Campground offers a serene escape nestled within the heart of rural Illinois. Known for its lush, wooded landscape, this park provides a genuine nature-focused camping experience for those looking to disconnect. While it is conveniently accessible from the interstate, the thick canopy of trees creates a secluded atmosphere that feels worlds away from the hustle of highway travel, making it a favorite for those who value privacy and natural beauty.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in the quiet community of Mulberry Grove, the campground is surrounded by the gentle rolling fields and mature timber stands typical of southern Illinois. Its position between Greenville and Vandalia makes it an ideal base for exploring Bond and Fayette counties. The local area is characterized by a slower pace of life, where narrow country roads lead to charming small-town storefronts and historic landmarks that reflect the region’s deep agricultural roots.
Amenities & Park Features
The park is well-equipped to handle both short-term travelers and seasonal guests. Visitors can enjoy a refreshing afternoon at the sparkling swimming pool or spend a quiet morning casting a line at the stocked fishing pond. Practical needs are met with a well-maintained laundry facility, a camp store for essentials, and spacious full-hookup sites that accommodate various rig sizes. The playground and shelter house serve as central gathering points for community activities throughout the season.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Just a short drive away, history buffs can visit the Vandalia State House, the oldest surviving capitol building in Illinois. For those seeking water recreation, Carlyle Lake is within easy reach, offering premier fishing, boating, and birdwatching opportunities. Additionally, the nearby town of Greenville features unique local museums and seasonal festivals that showcase the region's heritage, providing plenty of variety for day trips during your stay.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for families seeking a classic outdoor getaway where kids can play freely and explore nature in a safe environment. It also serves as an excellent stop for cross-country RVers who prioritize a quiet night's sleep in a shaded, natural setting rather than a roadside lot. If you appreciate a relaxed, community-oriented vibe and the rustle of leaves over city noise, this park will fit your travel style perfectly.

Beautiful campground. Very clean and well maintained. Mainly permanent vacation spots, but has a few overnight spots. Mostly peaceful and quiet, but lots of train activity (horns) during the night, but more distant than some we've stayed at. It seems it is hard to find a place without train noise off of I-70 in the Midwest. Anyway that has been our experience.

We stayed one night - in the rain - so we didn’t get the full experience. However, the place is interesting with lots of full time setups obviously ready to host kids and grandkids around a large field, small pool, and lots of walking space. The owner said the weekends are pretty full yet quite near sundown. The hosts are friendly and helpful with an interesting story of the history and future of the park. We had water and electricity but no sewer. Dump station is available. Toilets and showers clean.

Easy on and off from I-70. Overnight stays are near the front of parking w/e only. Park office is way in back. However, plenty of signage directing drivers were to go. We did not use any facilities as it rained the entire stay. Park is good for overnight stay. Would probably stay again. Got a 50% discount with RPI. Offer passport discount too. No wifi offered, we travel with ours.

This is a campground, not a hotel. We were put in a nice long site with our 38 foot 5th wheel and big Ford truck, so we didn't have to unhook just to spend one night. We didn't use any of the facilities. We wanted to use the bath house but it was too far for us to walk. When we pulled in to register, it was hard to find the office. It was a little bit of a walk and there wasn't a sign. Just signs showing how far it was. The trash dumpster was inconvenient at the exit also. You couldn't pull your camper up to the office or the dumpster, without getting out and walking. It was a quiet park, but it was off season. There were a lot of trees every where. We asked for just electric and water hookups. The site was level side to side. Jodi was very nice and accommodating in the office. They don't have a map of the park so she had to drive down to our site to direct us to where the bath house was. A lot of seasonal sites are here with home made built structures around them, made of wood with metal panels, to protect against the elements. Our front view was of a cornfield. The sites were very roomy. They do allow pets. They have a beautiful boxer in the office and he was very friendly. We would return to this campground if we were traveling through again.

Beautiful private campground with sites for overnight travelers. We had a very long pull thru that was level side to side. Very quiet. Good T-Mobile connection. Very well maintained with a convenient dump station and trash facilities. Only two easy miles off I-70
