Tombigbee

Overview

Tombigbee State Park offers a peaceful retreat nestled within the pine and hardwood forests of Northeast Mississippi. Established in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, this destination provides a classic state park atmosphere characterized by rolling hills and quiet lake views. It serves as a central hub for those exploring the rich musical and civil rights history found in the city of Tupelo while maintaining a distinct sense of seclusion from the urban bustle.

Location & Surroundings

The park is situated just six miles east of Tupelo, making it an easy transition from the city to the tranquility of Lake Lee. The surrounding landscape features rugged ridges and lush greenery that change beautifully with the seasons. Its proximity to the Natchez Trace Parkway makes it a convenient stop for travelers journeying along this historic scenic route, offering a restful overnight stay or a multi-day basecamp for regional exploration.

Amenities & Park Features

RV travelers will find campsites equipped with water and electrical hookups that accommodate both 30 and 50-amp service. The park provides essential facilities including a central dump station, hot showers, and restrooms. For recreation, visitors can enjoy a top-rated disc golf course, several miles of multi-use trails for hiking or mountain biking, and a large playground. The focal point of the park is the 53-acre lake, which is perfect for fishing for bream, bass, and catfish from the shore or a boat.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Being so close to Tupelo, guests are only a short drive from the Elvis Presley Birthplace, where fans can tour the modest home where the King of Rock 'n' Roll was born. History enthusiasts should not miss the Tupelo National Battlefield or the various sites along the Natchez Trace. For those traveling with families, the nearby Tupelo Buffalo Park and Zoo offers an interactive experience with exotic animals, while downtown Tupelo provides a variety of local dining and shopping options.

Who This Park Is Best For

I have not been really impressed by Mississippi, however the state parks have been really NICE. The park here is beautiful and the people are very nice. Very impressed.

the park itself Is beautiful, beautiful lakes for kayaking (they have rentals) or fishing, very small roads coming in to the park, no sign when you get close to the office to tell you stop and park in the overflow parking lot because if you go into the office area circle you won't get out unless you have a tiny RV, there are nice paved roads for riding bikes but I would definitely not suggest the trails in the woods as there are lots of roots and overgrowth, there are several items on the playground for kids and lots of picnic tables (some with covers), nice staff in the office, there is a guard shack towards the entrance of the park that seems unmanned and it is in a very odd place and we almost hit the roof with our fifth wheel, there are several dumpsters around the park and a dump station if you need it, there are several large pavilions with picnic tables, water pressure is good but the sites can be quite difficult to back into if you have a large rig (we thought we would flip over at one point). Elvis's birthplace and museum are maybe 15 minutes away, restaurants and stores are 15 min or so away

It's a beautiful lake, clean water and many gorgeous settings. We visited to do some bass fishing and were not successful that day. Highly recommend as a place to visit though.
