Tomoka
Overview
Tomoka State Park offers a serene escape into Florida's coastal hammock environment. Located on a peninsula where the Tomoka and Halifax Rivers meet, this park is rich in history and natural beauty. It occupies the former site of the Timucuan village of Nocoroco. Visitors can expect a peaceful atmosphere shaded by ancient oaks, providing a glimpse into the state's untouched landscapes before modern development.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in Ormond Beach, the park is bordered by the Tomoka River, offering a lush backdrop of salt marshes and hardwood forests. The surrounding area is characterized by its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean while maintaining a secluded, inland feel. The landscape transitions from dense canopies of live oaks to open vistas along the riverbanks, making it a prime spot for wildlife viewing including manatees and wood storks.
Amenities & Park Features
The park features 100 campsites, each equipped with electric and water hookups. Every site includes a picnic table and a grill, accommodating RVs up to 34 feet in length. On-site facilities include:
- A boat ramp and canoe or kayak rentals
- A convenience store with snacks and camping supplies
- Centrally located bathhouses with hot showers
While there are no sewer hookups at the individual sites, a dump station is available for all guests to use during their stay.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Beyond the park boundaries, visitors are a short drive from the sands of Ormond Beach and the excitement of Daytona Beach. Locally, the Ormond Scenic Loop and Trail offers a beautiful drive through coastal scenery. Within the park, travelers can explore the multi-use trails for hiking and biking or spend an afternoon fishing for snook and redfish. The Fred Dana Marsh Museum provides insight into the local history and ecosystem.
Who This Park Is Best For
Tomoka State Park is an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts and history buffs who prefer a rustic, quiet environment over high-density resorts. It is perfect for kayakers and birdwatchers looking to explore Florida's diverse waterways. Because of the size limits on campsites, it is best suited for small to mid-sized RVs and those who appreciate the tranquility of a state park setting.

This park is super quiet with the exception of a random vehicle on the main road that skirts the park. The staff is friendly and made several passes by the campsite every day. The campground roads are dirt but wide and maintained. The sites varies from tent size only to some pull throughs. Most sights are large enough for our 30 foot TT. There are no full hook up sights but water and 30 amp service is at every one. The dump station is at the entrance, updated and clean. The road to the “Tamoka Outpost” is paved. There you will find all your camping needs, kayak rentals, snacks and drinks. They even have their own beer on tap. This is one of our favorite parks in FL. You would never know that shopping and dining are less than15 minutes away.

We camped here for our anniversary and had the best time! Loved having such friendly and accommodating people on staff. The first day we were there, we had a water issue in the site and they were able to move us to another spot. Camping spots are spacious and have all accommodations. The showers/bath houses were very clean! We also decided to kayak on the river & loved our experience. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff at the Outpost. Love this park, to stay or to visit, it's a gem! Lots of wildlife to be seen here.

This park is awesome. We only saw four people and a turtle when we went. There were informative signs and a really cool statue. It costs five bucks to get in. Dog friendly.

A nice park for a walk, plenty of bird life to see. Got there late morning and still wasn't to busy. It was good to have the store in the park and able to get water in the heat of the day. Hopefully be back next year to see the bits I missed.

Great campsite for smaller trailers and tents. The rangers were wonderful and so informative. Nice short trails with ample shade. Fantastic spot for kayaking but pay attention to the tides and winds!
