Uinta-Wasatch-Cache/South Fork

Overview

South Fork Campground offers a serene escape within the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, providing a classic mountain camping experience. Situated along the banks of the Ogden River, this park is defined by its towering cottonwoods and dense willow thickets that create a sense of secluded privacy. It is an ideal destination for those who want to trade the sounds of the highway for the gentle rush of moving water and the rustle of leaves in the canyon breeze.

Location & Surroundings

Located just 12 miles east of Huntsville, Utah, the park sits at an elevation of approximately 5,200 feet. The scenic Ogden River Canyon provides a dramatic backdrop of steep limestone cliffs and lush forest floors. Because the campground is nestled deep within the canyon, it enjoys cooler temperatures than the valley floor, making it a highly sought-after refuge during the heat of the summer months for local and visiting RVers alike.

Amenities & Park Features

As a traditional forest service site, South Fork provides a rustic, back-to-basics atmosphere that favors nature over modern technology. The campground features paved pads that can accommodate various RV lengths, though there are no electrical or water hookups available at the sites. Visitors have access to communal vault toilets and potable water from shared spigots. Each site is equipped with a heavy-duty picnic table and a fire ring, perfect for evening gatherings under the stars.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw for many visitors is the blue-ribbon fishing available right from the riverbanks adjacent to the campsites. For those looking to explore the water further, Causey Reservoir is just a short drive away, offering a wake-less environment perfect for kayaking and paddleboarding. Additionally, the surrounding Uinta-Wasatch-Cache area is home to miles of multi-use trails that cater to hikers and mountain bikers looking to explore the rugged Utah backcountry.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is best suited for self-contained RV travelers who are comfortable without hookups and value a primitive connection to the outdoors. It is a fantastic choice for families looking to introduce children to the wonders of the national forest and for nature photographers seeking the rich textures of the Ogden Valley. If your travel style favors quiet nights, riverside views, and a disconnect from the digital world, South Fork is an excellent fit.

Really pretty, easy access to the river and campsites felt secluded even though they are close together. We stayed in campsite 34. The bathrooms were really not great. They had no toilet paper, overflowing with garbage and didn’t seem to be serviced at all throughout our stay.

Beautiful campsite. The river runs right by camp. If you're in Huntsville: First of all, why are you in Huntsville? Second of all, go to this campground. 5 STARS⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Loved the river access. Fishing was good. Generator running at neighbors camp sucked and weird campground host who asked when we were leaving 4 different times on a 2 night stay... besides that, wonderful.

This was a really nice campground with lots of trees for shade and for fairly good privacy. Great trees for hammocks etc. The trailer sites are a bit tricky to get into with the bigger rigs. But overall, a great experience and very well maintained.

This campground was great! The host was nice and did his job. I saw some complaints about the bathrooms stinking, but if everyone followed the rules it wouldn’t be that bad. You’re supposed to close the toilet lid and keep the door closed, but no one seems to be able to follow that. The spots were clean and kept well! We had a great time and will definitely be returning.
