Umpqua/Toketee
Overview
Located within the lush canopy of the Umpqua National Forest, the Toketee area offers a quintessential Pacific Northwest camping experience. This destination serves as a gateway to some of Oregon’s most iconic natural wonders, providing a secluded retreat for travelers who value proximity to the wilderness over modern frills. The park's atmosphere is defined by the rushing sounds of the North Umpqua River and the calming scent of ancient evergreen forests, offering a true escape from the bustle of city life.
Location & Surroundings
Situated along the North Umpqua River near Diamond Lake, OR, the park is nestled in a landscape shaped by historic volcanic activity and flowing water. This region is famously known as the Highway of the Waterfalls, where dense forest meets dramatic basalt formations. The high elevation provides refreshing mountain air, and the towering Douglas fir and hemlock trees create a deep sense of privacy and natural shade for each campsite throughout the day.
Amenities & Park Features
As a traditional Forest Service site, the focus here is on simplicity and immersion in nature. The park offers primitive camping sites equipped with picnic tables and fire rings. While there are no electrical or sewer hookups available, travelers have access to potable water and vault toilets. The sites are best suited for smaller RVs, camper vans, or truck campers, as the narrow paved loops and dense foliage are designed to preserve the natural environment rather than accommodate large rigs.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw for visitors is the short, scenic trail leading to the stunning Toketee Falls, where water plunges over a magnificent two-tiered basalt cliff. Adventure seekers often visit the nearby Umpqua Hot Springs, which offers terraced mineral pools overlooking the river canyon. For those who enjoy active recreation, the North Umpqua Trail provides miles of world-class terrain for hiking and mountain biking, while Diamond Lake is just a short drive away for high-altitude fishing and boating.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for self-contained RVers who are comfortable with dry camping and want to be steps away from world-class hiking trails. It is a perfect match for photographers, outdoor enthusiasts, and those looking to disconnect from technology. If your travel style favors tranquility and raw beauty over the organized activities and amenities of a traditional resort, this rugged forest setting will provide a deeply rewarding Oregon adventure.

Love and appreciate the different-sized sites. Firepits and picnic tables. NO running water. Bring your water! Vault pit toilets that are serviced several times a day. Quiet. Pet and family-friendly. Definitely recommend reserving the right size site for your group online. We had a really great 4 day vacation 6/26-29 with amazing fellow campers! We even visited the Umpqua Hot Springs, which were awesome and so beautiful.

Great Lake right near hot springs and falls. Definitely a spot to relax and unwind. Take your fishing lines with you too. You’ll need an Oregon state fishing license. $10 per campsite. Reservation are required from June through Labor Day, otherwise it’s first in first gets it.

Nice campground in a quiet location, the sites were everything we needed to stop by on our road trip. The lake itself is great, a perfect spot to sit by and enjoy nature.

FYI- this camp I’m pretty much has a full signal with Verizon, even though the coverage map doesn’t suggest it. Great little campground overall. No water, vault toilets, along the river and a nice lake just outside campground. It’s cheap too, $10-25/night. Lots of waterfall hikes nearby and 4 miles from Umpqua hot springs.
