Veilleux Camping & Marina

Overview

Veilleux Camping & Marina offers a serene riverside retreat located in the heart of Northern Ontario wilderness. Situated along the scenic banks of the Mattawishkwia River, this park combines the natural beauty of the boreal forest with the convenience of being just minutes from the town of Hearst. It serves as a peaceful gateway for those traveling along the Trans-Canada Highway who want to trade the rhythm of the road for the gentle sounds of water and nature. The park is well-regarded for its friendly atmosphere and its integration of a functional marina within a traditional camping environment.

Location & Surroundings

The park is positioned just south of downtown Hearst, ON, providing easy access to local services while maintaining a secluded, rustic feel. The surrounding landscape is dominated by dense forests and winding waterways, characteristic of the Cochrane District. Being on the river makes it a prominent landmark for local water-based recreation and a quiet stop for cross-country travelers. The lush greenery and proximity to the water create a micro-climate that is refreshing during the summer months, making it a lush boreal oasis for visitors passing through the region.

Amenities & Park Features

Guests can choose from a variety of sites, including those with full hookups and premium waterfront views. The park features a well-maintained boat launch and docking facilities, allowing easy access for fishing or exploring the river. Practical amenities include:

  • Spacious RV sites with 30 and 50-amp electrical service.
  • Clean washroom facilities and hot showers.
  • A safe children’s playground and open green spaces.
  • Designated fire pits and picnic tables at every site.
These features ensure a comfortable stay whether you are stopping for a single night or settling in for a week-long fishing trip.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw at Veilleux is the water, where visitors can enjoy fishing for walleye or northern pike directly from the docks or by boat. The nearby town of Hearst offers cultural experiences such as the Ecomuseum and local shops that celebrate the area’s unique French-Canadian heritage. Nature enthusiasts can explore the surrounding boreal forest trails or take a short drive to René Brunelle Provincial Park for further hiking opportunities. During the summer, the town hosts various cultural festivals that provide a glimpse into the local lumber and northern pioneering history.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal fit for boating and fishing enthusiasts who want immediate access to the water from their campsite. It also appeals strongly to families seeking a quiet, natural environment where kids can play safely outdoors. RVers looking for a scenic stopover while navigating Highway 11 will find this an inviting alternative to standard roadside parks. If you prefer a travel style that prioritizes natural beauty and water access over the high-speed pace of a luxury resort, this riverside destination will fit your needs perfectly.

Best campground EVER. I’ve rented the RV’s as well as the cabin and both are prestine. Everything you need is here! The restaurant on site is incredible. Martin and Julie go out of their way to make sure you’re comfortable and it’s amazing watching their daughters work along side. Such a lovely family.

Julie and Martin are amazing entrepreneurs!!! We have visited many privately owned campgrounds over the years and Veilleux Marina is a shining 5 stars for all that they provide and their customer service!!! Their restaurant is also top notch! Thank you voth for your hard work and dedication!

Excellent food. Great service. Beautiful view. I wish the staff would have killed every mosquito on the lake ahead of my arrival, but perhaps I am being ridiculous.

The service and management is probably fine, but we didn't get to enjoy it because from the moment we parked until we left we were swarmed by mosquitoes. Do not choose the campsites in the 500s. We saw fireflies briefly on the way to the bathroom, which would have been so cool, fireflies don't exist where we live, but the mosquitoes ruined even that experience. My whole family is taking a bit of Veilleux on the rest of our month long road trip in the form of itchy and painful bites that will take a while to fade. Including many on our faces from being bitten all night. First and last time visiting. Never coming back.
