Walter F George - COE/White Oak Creek

Overview

White Oak Creek offers a quintessential Corps of Engineers experience on the shores of Walter F. George Lake. Known primarily for its stunning water views and quiet atmosphere, this campground provides a natural retreat for those looking to escape the hustle of city life. The park is well-maintained and provides a variety of spacious campsites that take full advantage of the rolling Alabama landscape and the expansive reservoir, making it a staple for regional travelers.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just south of Eufaula, Alabama, the park is nestled along the western banks of a 45,000-acre reservoir often called the Bass Capital of the World. The surroundings are characterized by thick pine and hardwood forests that provide ample shade and a sense of privacy between neighbors. The gentle topography makes the park easy to navigate, while the shoreline provides endless opportunities for viewing local wildlife along the Chattahoochee River basin.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features over 60 campsites, many of which are waterfront sites providing direct access to the lake. Visitors can enjoy several practical features designed for comfortable stays:

  • Spacious pads with 50-amp electrical and water hookups
  • A convenient on-site boat ramp and courtesy dock for easy water access
  • Clean bathhouses, laundry facilities, and a dump station
  • A playground and multiple picnic areas for family gatherings

These amenities ensure a comfortable stay while maintaining the rustic charm of a lakeside retreat.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts can spend their days fishing for trophy largemouth bass or exploring the Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge, which is a haven for birdwatchers and nature photographers. A short drive away, the city of Eufaula offers a step back in time with its historic downtown district and beautifully preserved Antebellum mansions. Local walking tours and small-town dining options provide a pleasant contrast to the quiet life found at the water’s edge.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for anglers and boaters who want easy access to one of the region's premier fishing lakes. It is also a perfect fit for families looking for a quiet, budget-friendly vacation in a natural setting. Because the sites are large and level, it is a great choice for big-rig travelers who prefer the tranquility and space of a government-run park over the often crowded atmosphere of a commercial RV resort.

The prettiest lake side campsites are here! We parked our boat right at our site. Awesome! The ONLY word of caution…. Spray ant insecticide on your camper or around your tent AS Soon As You Park!! We had a really bad ant experience mostly because our site had muscadine wild grapes that were all over the ground. 😳

Live this place. We always stay in creek view. I won't say my favorite site BUT I really need to know when they are going to fix the bath houses between lot B and C. See yall in November.

We absolutely loved the site. #74. DIRECTLY on the water; not just close to the water or in view of the water like a lot of the others advertise. Perfect for launching the kayaks right out of the trailer and in the water. Saturday was a very busy day with jet ski and pontoons pulling children around and other fast boats running up and down, so I think that made the fishing less than hoped for. For fishing, probably best to go during the week. Bath house was outdated, but clean. Very friendly camp hosts. Lots of laughter heard from children, just a great place to have family fun. Sewer hookups would be welcomed, as it is a hassle to hookup and go dump and set up all over again. Still a beautiful weekend. I will definitely return.

We stopped for an overnight stay and were not disappointed. Although some of the lower numbered sites in this loop involved a downhill slope, our site 39 had easy access, was level, and the utilities worked as expected. The roads are maintained, trees are trimmed enough for safe access and there is ample guest parking. Each loop has a bathhouse with laundry, but the machines in our loop were out of order during our stay. Although we didn’t try them, the sign for the 2 (rickety🫤) machines in the next loop said they operated for free. Overall this was a pleasant stay and we plan to stop again when in the area.

Simply put, we had GREAT waterfront sites, a nice pad to park on, shade, and even no one around us until the day before we left. It was quiet! The bathhouse was clean and efficient, and the dumpsite was as well (that's where the dumpsters are). My only complaint (absolutely not the campground's fault) was the horrendously obnoxious gnats and flies that were overwhelming. The hosts were wonderful and chatty. I wish they would have had campground decals since we collect those to display on the camper (I think they're on the internet somewhere). Anyway, a great COE campground that we will definitely visit again!
