Wappapello Lake - COE/Redman Creek Rec Area offers a quintessential Corps of Engineers experience set against the rolling hills of Southeast Missouri. This destination is defined by its serene lakeside setting and heavily wooded campsites that provide a deep sense of privacy and peace. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the park serves as a gateway to the massive 8,400-acre lake, making it a favorite for those seeking a balance between modern RV convenience and rugged natural beauty. The atmosphere here is relaxed, characterized by the sounds of the forest and the gentle activity of the waterfront.

Location & Surroundings

Located just outside the community of Wappapello, the park sits within the scenic Ozark Foothills region. The surrounding landscape is dominated by thick hardwood forests and the expansive waters of the St. Francis River basin. Travelers arriving at Redman Creek will find themselves immersed in a lush environment where the air is fresh and the views are dominated by the shimmering lake. The park’s layout takes advantage of the varied terrain, offering sites that provide easy access to the water while remaining tucked away under a dense canopy of mature oak and hickory trees.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground provides well-maintained facilities designed for comfortable RV stays. Most sites feature 50-amp electrical hookups, along with spacious concrete pads that accommodate larger rigs. While water is readily available at hydrants throughout the loop, the park also offers clean shower houses and flush toilets. For convenience, a central on-site dump station is accessible to all guests. Outdoor living is encouraged with each site including a picnic table and fire ring. Boaters benefit from easy access to the water via the nearby boat ramps, and families often enjoy the designated playground areas.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Recreation at Wappapello Lake centers on the water, where visitors can enjoy exceptional crappie and bass fishing. Boating, kayaking, and swimming are popular seasonal activities. For those who prefer land-based exploration, the Bill Emerson Memorial Visitor Center offers fascinating insights into the local ecosystem and the history of the dam. We liked the area. Our site was very slanted. It was the only one available at the time we made the reservation but took it anyway. We made it work for us. Trailer tongue was basically lying on the ground with 8 leveling blocks under each rear jacks. Also we were inundated with large black ants inside and out. I finally got rid of them inside with the help of Hot Shot Ant & Roach spray. This was site 177 in East Redman.

Often come here to fish. Nice place, and cozy before the sunrise (before 07:30)

Gorgeous! The view of Lake Wappapello is astounding. So much to do here: museum, visitors center, playground, Beach, boat ramp, etc.

Beautiful quiet during weekdays and on the weekend it turns into one huge family staying in their space greeting one another. Communication is impressive between sites, and woodburning is allowed. 4 huge Turkey Buzzards soaring above my camp each day felt amazing. The hawks over the lake are beautiful to view, and geckos perched was fascinating to witness. Trails across the street for biking and walking are very steep. Great workout! To walk too. Although I didn't fish, the boats were on the water. Beautiful in all the ways. Was able to get fresh chives off the grass to add to my guacamole! The grass had the morning dew and the perfect web of a spiders trap. I cleaned my own site, and the bathrooms are good. Met very friendly people and for life.
