Watchman Campground Site B 9
Overview
Watchman Campground is situated within the heart of Zion National Park, offering a quintessential desert camping experience. While often associated with the gateway town of Springdale, this campground is located directly inside the park boundaries, providing unparalleled access to the dramatic red rock scenery. Site B 9 is a coveted location that offers visitors a chance to wake up surrounded by towering sandstone cliffs and the peaceful ambiance of the Virgin River winding nearby.
Location & Surroundings
The campground is positioned at the lower end of Zion Canyon, making it a perfect base for exploration. The dramatic scenic canyon views are immediate, as the site sits at the base of the Watchman Peak. Being located near the park entrance, guests benefit from proximity to the Zion Canyon Visitor Center and the shuttle system, which is essential for navigating the park during the peak travel seasons of spring, summer, and fall.
Amenities & Park Features
Watchman Campground provides a classic national park experience rather than a luxury resort atmosphere. Most sites, including those in loop B, offer electric hookups, which is a major advantage for modern RVers. While there are no sewer or water hookups at individual sites, a convenient dump station and potable water fill stations are available. Guests also have access to clean, modern restroom facilities throughout the campground loops for basic convenience.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw is the immediate access to world-class hiking trails. The Watchman Trail starts right near the campground, providing a rewarding trek with panoramic canyon vistas. Beyond hiking, visitors can easily access the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive via the park shuttle to reach famous landmarks like the Narrows or Emerald Pools. After a long day of outdoor adventure, the nearby town of Springdale offers various dining options and galleries just outside the park gates.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is ideal for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts who prioritize scenic beauty and accessibility over resort-style amenities. It is perfectly suited for travelers who plan to spend their days hiking or cycling and want a home base that minimizes transit time into the park. If you appreciate a quiet night under the stars and want to be at the doorstep of Zion National Park, this location is an exceptional choice.

Wonderful campground, fantastic location, and beautiful scenery! No showers, power or laundry, but a great bike path behind campsites and a nice rushing river. Loved it!

Good campsite with power. Very critical on hot summer week with our RV. Good space for a group in camp. Bathrooms were good. Access to the river was very easy. Nice views from the camp, and easy access to visitor center and the bus.

Mind you, I am not complaining but simply pointing out why only 4 stars. Almost every site is not level. That makes the hot aluminum picnic tables hard to cook, eat, and sit on being they are not level either. At some point, there will be shade because of the trees. When they say water, that means there are communal water hydrants at the sewer station, not at the site. Had a wonderful time and hope to come back someday.

Amazing place! Staying two weeks here. Great for RV. On B section, pull thru sites by the river is really spacious. Also mt side sites are smaller but cozy.
