Whitewater Township Park

RV Park

Overview

Overview

Whitewater Township Park offers a serene escape on the shores of Elk Lake in Williamsburg, Michigan. Managed by the local township, this park balances a natural, wooded environment with convenient access to one of the region's most beautiful bodies of water. It is a destination where the pace of life slows down, allowing visitors to enjoy the quintessential Northern Michigan experience while staying at a well-maintained Elk Lake facility that emphasizes nature over commercial noise.

Location & Surroundings

Nestled within Grand Traverse County, the park is situated just north of M-72, making it an easy drive from the bustling energy of Traverse City. The surrounding landscape is defined by the Chain of Lakes, a series of interconnected waterways that offer stunning vistas and crystal-clear water. Tall hardwoods and pines provide a canopy of shade across the 100-acre property, creating a secluded atmosphere while remaining conveniently close to local agricultural stands and small-town charm.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features 56 campsites, providing a mix of modern and rustic options for various camping styles. Visitors can enjoy several well-maintained facilities designed for comfort and outdoor recreation:

  • Spacious campsites with electrical hookups and access to a convenient dump station.
  • Clean bathhouses featuring modern toilets and hot showers for guest use.
  • A private boat launch and swimming beach providing direct access to the water.
  • Miles of wooded hiking trails, a playground for children, and a basketball court.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Its proximity to Williamsburg means guests are only minutes away from the Turtle Creek Casino and top-tier championship golf courses. A short drive west leads to Traverse City, famous for its vibrant downtown, local breweries, and annual festivals. Nature lovers can venture further to explore the Old Mission Peninsula wineries or take a scenic day trip to the iconic Sleeping Bear Dunes. On-site, the primary draw remains the water, which is perfect for fishing, kayaking, and sunset viewing.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for families and couples seeking a tranquil waterfront retreat without the crowded feel of larger commercial resorts. It specifically appeals to boaters and anglers who want direct access to the Chain of Lakes for summer fun. Exceptional customer service. Absolutely hands down the friendliest staff I’ve ever encountered. You can tell they like their jobs and want campers to have the best experience. The park is super cute. I love the layout. Each site is spacious and private. The lake views are breathtaking. I can’t wait to go back.

It was a nice weekend. Staff are friendly and helpful. It was a nice surprise having the free firewood too along with the sticks we pick up from our site. Bathrooms are nice and clean.

Great sites and great fun things going on. Need better website that is up to date with events and dates of operation. Closing “Early October” is not something you can plan with. How about an actual date?
