Yosemite Hodgdon Meadow Groveland CA is a small town located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. It is situated at the base of the Yosemite National Park and is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The town is home to a variety of activities, including camping, fishing, hiking, and horseback riding. The area is also known for its stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The town is also home to a variety of restaurants, shops, and lodging options.

Yosemite/Hodgdon Meadow

Spent 3 nights at this campground near the entrance of Yosemite National Park. It’s about a 45-minute drive to Yosemite Valley. We stayed at campsite #1, which was conveniently located near the entrance, but a bit far from the restrooms. There is no reception on this campground.

There are no showers on-site, so we had to drive to Curry Village to take a shower. The campground only has flushing toilets, which is fine, but they weren’t very clean and there was no soap available. They also have potable water.

Some campsites are also on a slope, which isn’t ideal for tent camping. During our visit, there was a lot of loose dirt, so our feet and legs were constantly dusty.

Each site has a bear box, which is a plus for safety. Overall, it’s a decent location close to the park, but restroom maintenance and facilities could definitely be improved.

Great campsite above Yosemite Valley. It takes about 40-60min to drive down to Yosemite Valley is can be both good and bad: calmer and further away from crowds but requires more driving.

My specific campsite was on an incline so it was hard to find a flat patch of ground to pitch my tent but other than that the campsite was great. Every campsite had its own table, fire pit, and bear locker and there’s toilets with running water nearby.

We enjoyed our stay at this campsite, however we had to cut our trip short since the terrain was on a slope. We had originally planned on having 2 tents set up. One on the ground and one on my pickup truck bed for the kids. Unfortunately the staff did not allow me to put up the tent on my pickup truck which was a real bummer and really made the camping more inconvenient. The plus side was the flushable restrooms and running water.

Recently visited and had an amazing experience! The campground is right as you enter Yosemite National Park and super easy to locate, plus it's only about a 30 minute drive from Yosemite Valley.

The camp hosts were absolutely amazing, both welcoming and super knowledgable while we were there June 20-23. There is no phone service, but that's what we hope for and expect while camping. It was the perfect way to unplug. We had a hike in campsite and we will 100% be doing that again, not a super far hike and you get to be a little bit further away from other camp sites.

Absolutely love this place and was really sad to leave! We will definitely be back and will recommend to others.

The campground is 45 min far from Yosemite Valley. If you are driving from San Francisco this is the closest campground spot, literally 5 minutes from the entrance. From Tioga pass around 1hr 30min.
Super quiet and relaxing area, clean bathrooms and dish washing spot. 100% recommended

Campsites are so close together you’re practically dining with neighbors. You’re also really going to get a workout every time you risk falling up and down the steep grade getting to your car at 22&23 spots- unless you’re lucky to have the spot right by the multiple car parking area which I’ve decided is far worse. Don’t expect to find any flat area for anything- our bed is on a 10degree incline and we woke up a foot lower on our bed the first night. Bathrooms are few and mostly located in the same place. Flushing toilets are nice, but no soap or hand dryers. The dishwashing station is really just a big toilet to flush only grey water. Good news is there’s plenty of fire starter, sticks, and logs around.

Great experience at this national park campground. Rangers were nice and helpful. Bathrooms available. But Unfortuantly no showers. Potable water available for drinking. Allowed to savage for wood. About a 45 min drive to the valley from this campground.

Stayed at site #46. It was a hike in which not too bad imagine just walking from the front door to your house to your neighbor across the streets garage. Probably the closest hike in spot I’ve stayed in. All the sites were basically on top of each other. We stayed from mid oct ‘24 for 2 nights, Sat-mon. It was fairly busy and noisy saturday night. Sunday night we only had one neighbor. It looked like it cleared out despite it saying the whole campground was fully booked up. Bear lockers were very large. It fit our 65 qt and 48 qt cooler + 22 inch black stone with extra room to spare for all our other scented items. We did see the camp rangers walk around in the morning to make sure nothing was left out and locked in the bear lockers. There are a ton of bees in the day time especially while cooking. The ground isn’t very level so we had to kind of position our tent on the “flattest” part of our campsite. I did feel the slight angle that we had to sleep on which wasn’t too uncomfortable. We just made sure our heads were at the top of the slope. Didn’t love this site because of how close everyone was to us, you could hear everyone’s conversation. I’d suggest camping during the week for this site. This site was actually nice because it was far back that nobody really walks through your campsite. If you can, I would avoid the middle campsites by the bathrooms. I can only imagine all the people walking in and out of your campsite. There’s not really a real path to get to the bathroom. Bathrooms were clean for the most part with flushable toilets. It was surprisingly not as cold as we thought it would be since we were at the lower point of Yosemite -our thermometer read at 33 degrees at around 7am. It was much colder when we were up by general Sherman’s tree. This is a good site to camp in the winter, I think summer would be terrible and very hot.

Nice campground in the forest, campsites have good tables, fire pits and huge bear lockers. The sites are not super big but that's on par for national park campgrounds. Bathrooms are fine (toilet, sinks). Location is convenient, right after you enter the park - and a 30~40 minute drive to the Yosemite valley.

It is yosemite! I love Yosemite. I go to yosmite all the time. This is a bare bones kinda camp site. There is no water at the individual sites. Vault toilets at the group site make for some interesting experiences. You come here for the location and the camping experience. I was able to get cell reception for a call on Verizon at the top of the hill where you checked in. The camp hosts/ Rangers did a good job patrolling, making sure fires were out. Food was put away, and dogs were on leashes.

This is a nice, basic NPS campground, but it isn’t where Google Maps shows it. It’s just inside the park’s west entrance.
