Yosemite West / Mariposa KOA

Overview

The Yosemite West / Mariposa KOA is situated in the scenic foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. This park functions as a traditional, family-oriented basecamp that emphasizes convenience for those planning a journey into the national park. The setting feels rustic and tucked away, offering a quiet environment where travelers can enjoy the forested landscape of Midpines, California. It is a well-established destination that balances necessary comforts with a classic outdoor camping atmosphere.

Location & Surroundings

Located along Highway 140, this park serves as a prime gateway for visitors heading to the Yosemite National Park Arch Rock entrance. The scenic mountain drive provides a beautiful introduction to the region, winding through the Merced River canyon. Being positioned outside the park boundaries allows for a peaceful stay away from the heavy congestion of Yosemite Valley, while still keeping the iconic granite cliffs and natural wonders within a manageable driving distance for day-trippers.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is designed to accommodate various camping styles, ranging from tent sites to spacious RV hookups. Guests have access to essential facilities including clean restrooms and showers, which are highly valued after a long day of hiking. Additionally, the park features a refreshing swimming pool that serves as a welcome relief during the warmer summer months. Other standard offerings like picnic tables and community fire pits help foster the social, outdoor experience common in well-managed KOA campgrounds.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The proximity to Yosemite National Park is the primary draw for most visitors, providing easy access to world-famous sites like El Capitan and Bridalveil Fall. Beyond the national park, the town of Mariposa offers a taste of local history with its charming downtown area and various historic gold mining landmarks. For those seeking adventure, the Merced River provides excellent opportunities for seasonal whitewater rafting and fishing, making it an ideal region for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy diverse recreational activities.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal selection for families and RV travelers who want a reliable, structured stopover while exploring the Yosemite region. It is particularly well-suited for those who prefer having modern campground amenities rather than primitive dispersed camping. If you prioritize a balanced experience that combines the rugged natural beauty of the Sierra Nevada with the functional ease of a full-service park, this Midpines location provides a steady and comfortable home base.

Our recent stay at AutoCamp Yosemite was exceptional. The service was attentive, the food was excellent, and the Airstream accommodations were impeccably clean. A truly well-managed property that delivers a high-quality guest experience

My daughter and I just got back from a perfect four night stay at AutoCamp Yosemite. Check-in was easy and the staff was helpful at every turn. All of the staff we encountered were friendly and eager to assist us. We stayed in a Premium BaseCamp Suite; the tent was large, luxurious, and comfortable. The Airstream was also comfortable and clean, and supplied with everything needed for an amazing stay. We made s’mores right at the grill/fire pit at our campsite! We enjoyed daily breakfast and some delicious nightly snacks and dinner in the beautiful ClubHouse. I loved having my morning coffee at the Club House’s modern fire pit, and their live music in the evenings. I started my Saturday morning with a fantastic yoga class in the gym before heading to Yosemite National Park… AutoCamp is conveniently located about 30-40 minutes away, and only 10 minutes away from the town of Mariposa, where we shopped and dined. We were sad to check-out on our final morning. I highly recommend AutoCamp Yosemite for a peaceful stay if you want to be submerged in nature with all the amenities of a luxury hotel. We can’t wait to return!

Our stay here was absolutely perfect. From the moment we arrived, it felt like the best parts of camping and comfort blended into one. The Airstream was spotless and cozy, and the whole property was calm and intentional. From the fire pits to the main clubhouse to the small details that make you feel taken care of without it feeling fussy. The staff were warm and genuinely helpful, and everything was set up to make it easy to relax. It struck the perfect balance of nature and design, and it honestly made us fall in love with the whole AutoCamp concept. We’re already planning our next stay—maybe back here, maybe one of their other locations—but either way, this definitely won’t be our last AutoCamp trip.

Had a great stay. The facility is amazing. We had so many great encounters with the staff. Best staff of any place we’ve stayed. Nina even took time to get us directions to a hike on her phone since we didn’t have service. Plenty of fun activities planned at the clubhouse. We will definitely be back Thanks for a great stay.

Capital at its Best! I want to start by saying that I truly appreciated the unique ambiance and the airstream experience at AutoCamp Yosemite. It was the very reason my husband, our friends, and I chose this location for our getaway. Unfortunately, what could have been a memorable and restorative trip ended up highlighting capitalism at its best—prioritizing profit over the guest experience. During our stay, AutoCamp Yosemite hosted a private wedding on site, complete with a DJ blasting music at high volumes, including explicit lyrics about sex, drugs, and foul language. While I understand and respect the 10:00 pm noise policy (and yes, the music stopped promptly at 10:01 pm), the disruption leading up to that time clashed entirely with the peaceful, family-friendly, nature-focused environment AutoCamp promotes. To make matters worse, when multiple guests complained to the front desk, the response we received was essentially, “This was expected.” That type of dismissal made it clear that the comfort of paying guests had taken a back seat to the revenue brought in by hosting a private event. For us, this trip was meant to celebrate life after a friend’s survival of a major heart attack and also my birthday. Instead of finding peace and connection with nature, we were met with noise, explicit lyrics, and the realization that guest experience simply wasn’t the priority. AutoCamp Yosemite sells itself as an escape—an opportunity to unplug, unwind, and reconnect. Hosting events that undermine this promise not only impacts guest satisfaction but also risks the long-term reputation of the brand as a family-friendly destination. Capitalism at its best: a profitable night for AutoCamp, but a lost opportunity for loyal guests seeking the experience they were promised.
