Chickasaw/The Point

Overview

The Point campground is a standout destination within the Chickasaw National Recreation Area, offering RVers a serene escape on the northern shores of the Lake of the Arbuckles. This federally managed park combines the rugged beauty of south-central Oklahoma with the convenience of developed facilities. Unlike more rustic sections of the recreation area, The Point provides a structured environment that allows travelers to enjoy the outdoors without sacrificing essential comforts. It serves as a gateway to both water-based recreation and the historic charm of the surrounding region.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just south of Sulphur, OK, the park is nestled in the foothills of the Arbuckle Mountains. The terrain is characterized by rolling hills, dense oak forests, and the sparkling expanse of the Lake of the Arbuckles. Visitors can expect a tranquil atmosphere where the sound of the water and the rustle of the trees take center stage. The site is uniquely positioned where the eastern deciduous forest meets the western mixed-grass prairie, creating a diverse ecosystem for guests to explore.

Amenities & Park Features

The Point features several loops designed specifically for RV enthusiasts. Many sites offer electric and water hookups, with several loops specifically modernized to accommodate larger rigs on paved or gravel pads. Each site typically includes a picnic table and a fire ring, perfect for evening gatherings. On-site facilities include clean restrooms and showers, a convenient dump station, and easy access to multiple boat ramps for those bringing watercraft along for their journey.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

There is no shortage of activity surrounding the park. Boating and fishing for bass and crappie are primary draws for those staying at The Point. Just a short drive away, travelers can explore the Chickasaw Cultural Center to learn about tribal history or visit the Travertine District to see the famous Little Niagara Falls and cold mineral springs. The area also boasts miles of multi-use hiking trails that wind through unique geological formations and scenic vistas.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal fit for water sports enthusiasts and families looking for a classic outdoor experience. It caters well to those who appreciate a national park-style atmosphere rather than a commercial resort vibe. Because of its spacious sites and natural buffers, it is a great choice for RVers seeking privacy and a direct connection to Oklahoma's natural landscape while still maintaining access to necessary modern utilities.

I enjoyed this campsite until I was cussed out by the campground host for speeding when I was only going 10mph. He was rude and hateful and if my friends son wasn’t in the truck I would have shown him how to be more respectful. Other than that rude old man the campground is great

My new favorite favorite place to camp. (Two years later) I think that I like campsite 55 or 56 the best. The elevated campsite would permit me to run my Honda generator below the edge of the stone wall and no one would hear it. Just sayin'. And also campsite 5.

We go to The Point a couple times each year. It is a nice, quiet COE campround. Clean, well kept sites, friendly camp host, clean showers. The only possible negative is there is little-to-no cell phone coverage in most cases...but that is part of the allure to us.

What a beautiful campground! If we lived closer we would absolutely be coming back. We scoped out our favorite sites with the large campfire areas. Sites were well maintained, level and sturdily bordered. You have neighbors, but you are spread out and not up in each other’s business. We had a very relaxing stay! No showers and the toilets are the pit kind, but must have been recently serviced because they weren’t stinky and the bathrooms were well maintained. Short drive to the lake.

We went here and stayed a few years ago. The shower was amazing. The whole camp experience here was one of our best trips ever. I highly recommend this campground.
