Lake Casitas Recreation Area
Kyle Turner
I highly recommend Lake Casitas Recreation Area for camping, day trips, or a fun family outing! As a local, I've enjoyed this spot for years. The recently renovated water park is fantastic, with a great kids' play area and lazy river. There are plenty of clean restrooms and showers, plus a convenient on-site store. Camping here is amazing, especially now that the lake is full. Don't miss out on this hidden gem! One of these pictures shows the restaurant with the boat loading ramp next to it. That ramp had not been used for many many years, so it is amazing to see it operational now since the water level has risen.

I was in the area and never seen the camp ground. I asked if I can drive in for a few minutes to see what see what the sites looked like and was told I had to pay 10 bucks. I offered to pay and asked to get the money back if I leave in 5 min and they said no. I didn't pay and left under protest and will never camp there. There's plenty of other places that are hospitable to not waste my time, energy and money on a place like this.

This place is a dump. False advertisement, there is no lake.. Just a couple of mud puddles and no fish. Very disappointed. The facilities are outhouses, dirty, trash strewn about and very little sites to choose from as the majority of the lake was closed. Water Park: Again, save your money unless you like being stuck in a watery version of the 405.. in Mexico.. My experience was wretched. Park "policies": When I made the reservation I only wanted one day. A Saturday. I was told reservations require a two day stay regardless of whether you are going to be there or not. I figured, ok.. Its my daughters bday and I want to teach my son to fish.. Why not. When we arrive on Friday to check in, I was in my car as the RV was being serviced. I informed the man at the gate and he proceeded to charge me an additional $14.00 dollars. When I asked what the additional charge was for he said it was "policy" that additional vehicles pay $14.00. I said, okay, that makes sense. However, this is one vehicle, I had just paid $120.00, for the site and this one vehicle would be in the site one night, until the following day, I would be bringing the RV (one vehicle) and leaving the other vehicle at home. After some debate with, Abel (a manager...lol.. hardly). Heinsists if I want to use my camp site this evening either I would be paying an additional $15.00 dollars for my vehicle or my RV that I would be bring the following day. One site, one car. That makes sense. The policy is as such the pass is written once and the park management will not make any exceptions. I get it.. Its only $15.00. Its the principal of it. They nickel and dime the very patrons who keep them open. I will not be back and I highly suggest to anyone else thinking about spending their hard earned money there.

Very nice campground. Didn't feel crowded. Enjoyed the shady trees and felt safe to let our little one run free with other children in camp. Quiet at night and great views of the stars. There is a nicely stocked camp store and numerous playgrounds for kids in the campground. The park also has boat rentals and sells fishing licenses and everything you need to fish. We enjoyed our 3-nights at Lake Casitas campground!

We went last June to do some weekend camping, and ended up being there during the same time as the Ojai Wine Festival and it was a really awesome surprise. There were dozens of wineries represented and of course, quite a bit of wine tasting. It was super classy and well put-together; definitely not what us campers had expected. The camping was nice too, definitely over-shadowed by the festival, but we liked the small group site and all the amenities. The site wasn't too far from the lake, so at night, we could hear the water lapping about and it was really soothing. The boat rentals are a pinch pricey, but well worth it! We caught some beautiful carp which the men of the group obviously were super proud of. There were plenty of spots for picnics so we would smoke the fish from the night before and have picnics around mid-afternoon when the temperature isn't too unbearable, and everyone really enjoyed that. Overall, a great campground; go there in June! - Review provided by RV Park Recommendations & Reviews Facebook Group
