One of the best options for RMNP, especially for hiking numerous trails in Bear Lakes area. If you stay in Estes Park, you'll need entry permit to come in to the park. Having a campsite in the park solves that problem. Once in the camp, you can take shuttle to the trail head without driving at all. At $30, it's not that very cost effective though. A motel room in Estes Park can be had for $70 and it comes with all creatures comfort like real bed, heat/AC, electricity, plumbing, wifi, privacy, etc, etc. The campground is a little cramped, but it comes with flush toilet and running water. Loop A and B are also shaded. Avoid Loop C if you can: many are fully exposed to the sun. If those are the only sites available, I'd stay in a motel in Estes Park.

Beautiful campground, though campsites are glaringly close. Bring earplugs in case you have a loud local neighbor. Firewood sold on site at the entrance. Nice clean bathrooms. Easy hike out the backside of campsite to Sprague lake. Across the street from the park and ride. Don't forget about your park pass in addition to your campsite reservation. Love me some national parks.

I was surprised at the quality of the bathrooms at the site - far better than the pit toilets throughout the park. Plumbing never smelled / looked / felt so good! The campground was clean and well maintained. The park rangers also patrolled the campground on a regular basis to ensure everyone’s safety particularly related to food storage. The campsites weren’t huge but had enough privacy. Finally a beautiful view of the mountains.
