Silver Thread Basecamp is a long name for a very nice RV campground. We stayed there a week. The staff were all kind, courteous and very helpful. Having access to the Rio Grande is wonderful! The grounds have many tall cottonwoods that create shade and mitigate noise. And for as close as the campground is to the highway there is surprisingly little highway noise because of the trees and it being below the highway in the flood plain. The RV spaces are ample, a bit roomier than most other RV campgrounds. The bathrooms are very clean and were never crowded despite the campground being nearly full. The campers were courteous and mostly were friendly and talkative. Quiet hours were honored. Even during the day when we were around there was little in the way of noise. Overall Silverthread Basecamp is a quality RV campground with solid staff and is worth pursuing if you’re camping around South Fork, Colorado.

This rv park is situated right outside of South Fork Colorado. The back in spaces are pretty tight but the hosts are friendly and helpful. We had 30 amp that was plenty in the cool weather. Bathroom and showers were clean and roomy. Would stay  here again. Saw a bear 2 evenings in a row. Right on the River

Our space was pretty narrow and tight between two big cottonwood trees. We did have shade. There was one small single Trail to the river. The shore was very rocky . About 100 yd to the right was a no trespassing sign that said private property for owners only. We could have probably walked down the river but it was so Rocky it was almost impossible. The park was very crowded. It wasn't quite what they advertised. The price was pretty good. I will rate it  3 1/2.

We rented a wagon for my birthday weekend. Such a unique and fun stay! We had most of the amenities of home...but in a covered wagon! It was a nice spacious campground with mature trees, right on the river. Friendly staff! The bath house was clean and everything was well kept. Would 100% recommend this to friends and family (& already have multiple times!). I should also mention that we own a large camper... But we came for the wagon experience. It was so nice to just jump in the daily driver and just load up food & clothes and take off. No hauling, no expensive diesel fills, no leveling the camper... just relaxation! 

Very nice park. Sites are spacious. It has a rustic look with modern amenities. The covered wagons add a nice touch. A short 2 minute walk to the river adds to the experience. My dogs loved the Bark Park which is totally suitable for small dogs, no opportunity for escape.
My only complaint is walking up stairs to get to the laundry room but that’s because I have old knees!

Was just at Silver Thread Basecamp this month Sept. 2025. This was our 5th or 6th year to go to Southfork and we always stay at this camp ground. Shade trees, away from the hwy. and river view. This summer had to leave two weeks early as my husband    was hospitalized with blood clots. Admitted into ICU in Pueblo. No refund or credit was offered. Yes policy say no refunds due to medical reasons. Just not sure if we will return to Silver Thread. I do see policy  but also I see MEDICAL reason as in ICU as a pretty good reason
Credit for next year should be offered.

We loved this campground! We looked at other campgrounds in the area but were so glad we stayed here because of the trees, great park host and spacious level sites!  My parents stayed in the covered wagons and really enjoyed the nostalgia. The campground was conveniently located to everything we wanted to do.  South Fork has all your basic needs and within 3 miles of the campground! We will definitely be back.

We love this campground!  It is so peaceful with great views and wonderful facilities. The sites are level, nice hookups and plenty of shade.  The laundry facilities and shower house are very clean.  The camp hosts (Ron, Liz, David and Jane) are so friendly and helpful.

The campground is in a perfect location to get to South Fork, Creede, Del Norte and Monte Vista.

We can't wait to come back!

We stayed in a covered wagon and it was so cute a cozy! The location is beautiful! It’s right on the river and we had a ton of fun tubing. Also near tons of outdoor fun - and they recommend a gorgeous paddle boarding spot. We had a great experience!

Absolutely loved our stay! The campground was spotless, and the riverfront spots were beautiful. The hosts—Ron, Liz, David, and his wife—were fantastic. While we were out, we had a water issue and David went above and beyond to fix it for us. Such a great experience overall—we’ve already booked our spot for next August!

This campground was perfect. We had a spot near the river and it was beautiful. It was quiet and the camp spots are not crammed together. It was a little out of town and we loved it. This was truly a great camping experience. We will for sure stay here every time!!

We had a great time at Basecamp. The staff was helpful and very attentive. The location was close to town, close to the river, and very easy to get around. Our RV space had trees, a picnic table, and a nice fire pit. Overall it was a great experience and I would return!

Best place in South Fork for propane refills.

Easy access off the main road but nice & quiet. Owners are super nice.

Awesome campground! Everyone is pretty close together so would avoid if you're looking for space. It was very quiet at night, everyone respecting not making too much noise. Full hookup sites, some right against the river, was so relaxing listening to the water babble me to sleep. Camp staff will assist you to your spot and with backing up if you need it! Firewood sold on site $6 a bundle as well as ice and propane refills!

Nice campground. As of June 2021 the shower/bathroom is closed. Should have mentioned that on the website. Other than that, good stay. On site RV service guy is awesome!

Heavily treed, flat, quiet campground, located off a frontage road from main highway.  Sites are good size, easy to back into or pull through.  Electric, water, sewer.  The Rio Grande is within feet of some sites. Lots of bird watching, ducks,  and geese. Rich, the manager and other staff are friendly, happy to chat and answer questions about the area.  Great couple days on the river.  We will definitely stay at South Fork Campground again when we are in the locale. Thanks All!
