Temecula / Vail Lake KOA: RV Camping in Temecula, CA

Temecula KOA at Vail Lake is a massive RV resort with various campgrounds. The entire resort alone provides so much area to get a good walking, jogging and cycling workout.

We got a good spot and, therefore, enjoyed the views, fresh air and clean atmosphere. There are lots of trees and grassy fields here, unlike RV parks that look like parking lots.

It's also just a short drive away from the wineries. If you like to drink wine but don't have a designated driver, just hire an Uber or Lyft.

This place has changed in a year since our last stay. They’ve discontinued printing the map all other KOA campgrounds hand you at check in. In favor of an app you have to download and try to figure out while on a goose chase trying to find your site. They’ve expanded with new full hook up sites that are well away from amenities such as dog areas and restaurant/ store areas. The new sites have no grass, they have instead spread what I can only describe as debris on the ground that for older adults such as myself and my disabled wife is very uneven and difficult to navigate. Wood chips is one thing but but this place is like trying to walk around an unkept firewood yard.

Vail Lake is one of my favorite places in the Temecula area to relax and unwind. The grounds are clean, well-maintained, and the overall environment is peaceful and welcoming. It always feels safe, making it a great place for families, couples, or anyone looking to enjoy some time outdoors.

The property has a charming general store that is convenient and adds to the campground atmosphere. There is also a really cool ice cream shop that serves delicious treats along with a variety of food items, making it easy to grab a snack or meal without leaving the property. The bar is another great feature, offering a fun place to relax and enjoy a drink after a day of exploring.

Whether you are camping, fishing, or simply looking for a quiet getaway, Vail Lake offers a clean, relaxing, and enjoyable experience. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a nice escape in the Temecula area.

We love this campground and all of the improvements they have made.  A playground for the grandkiddos and a few repairs on the roads in the oaks and it would be perfect for us.
I wish they would do away with the site guarantee fee if you are a koa member…it’s already one of the most expensive campgrounds. Regardless, we love it

We travel very often and have stayed at many KOA campgrounds across different states and cities in the U.S., but this KOA is hands down the best one. It now takes first place on my list of favorite KOA locations.

The place itself is incredibly beautiful. The mountains are absolutely stunning. This KOA is located in a quiet, peaceful area surrounded by scenic hills and trees. The silence is truly special — you can hear every rustle, every bird. It feels like complete peace and connection with nature.

The office staff are very friendly and welcoming. The cabin we rented for just one night was exceptionally comfortable, spacious, beautiful, and thoughtfully designed. We especially loved the staircase leading to the second floor. There are comfortable chairs near the fire pit, making it a perfect spot to relax in the evening. The barbecue grill works perfectly.

The cabin has a small, lovely, and very clean bathroom. The bedding was pleasant and comfortable, and the bed itself was very cozy — we slept great. Lavender bushes were growing nearby, filling the air with a soft, calming scent.

Overall, it’s impossible to put into words how wonderful this place is. Don’t even hesitate — this is the best place around, without a doubt.

This place has gone down hill. The staff at the entrance is rude. I checked in with my RV and had an additional car with license plate checked in. We left to go to the store and came back to find out they charged us 20$ to get back in because they said the car wasn't a registered vehicle.  So they just billed the site. Lack of communication among staff members just assuming your stealing from them. Then we had a friend come to visit and when his ride came to pick him up they wouldn't let him in the gate.  This place used to be so friendly and now seems like they are just money hungry and want to charge for every little thing. Rude staff ! Not a friendly place to visit. Upcharge for everything.  This year you cant even bring your own firewood in for your camp fire. They require you to buy theres. Whio does that? I have been coming here for 10 years and have never seen it like this.

We love this place and have been coming here for years. We come durning all seasons but our favorite, we have always came to the 2nd weekend event in October, which is a blast great for kids and adults. This event can feel more like Halloween than Halloween day! With lots to do; Halloween parties, costume party’s, haunted mazes, golf cart decorations and trick or treating at all trailers along with decoration and some spots go all out even if it’s just for a weekend. we decorate our spot every year as well you can find us in the oaks every 2nd weekend!

Great place for the family. Lots of things to do here. Hiking, riding bikes, swimming, BBQ, party, they have so many activities for the kids and adults.

The fall colors were beautiful. It was nice to be in a cabin to have showers. It was perfect for our family of 4 and we could even fit about 3 more in here with the beds in the loft. I wish they would update the mini golf and some of the areas for families to do. But overall it was a nice, quiet stay.

Live music, putt putt, 3 pools, a well stocked store, tent camping and RVs. Now on a busy weekend it is packed with RVs and it's essentially a neighborhood instead of camping but still lots of amenities so if you love RV trips then this place is a great choice, if you prefer camping in the woods and not seeing other people too often then this is not your place. I like it tho, perfect change of scenery for a quick car camping trip.

This Campground is fantastic! It has extremely large sites, free activities,  paid crafts, mountain bike day trails, a Cafe and a store.. All areas were clean and nice, the staff was pleasant, friendly and helpful!! I tye dyed a tshirt for $15, so fun!! Love this place and will go back for all of this plus the scenery!!

I'd love to stay there but for some reason I can't book online and they never answer the phone. I hear it's a nice place but I really wouldn't know.

Site #331. Very large and very noisy KOA Campground. Large groups gathered at many campsites partying. The weekend we were there, modified golf carts with big speakers were driving around all day and night. Very dusty. Restrooms were OK. I don’t think we would ever camp here again. Not a good fit for us.

This place is very nice,  plenty of fun things for kids and adults. Very big campground with lots of room to wander around and  see birds,trees, and surrounding hills. Trails for bicycles and hiking.
