Tidewater Campground

My family and I stayed at this campground for the 2025 season (so I could work locally as a rn.)We had a wonderful time! We made many memories at the pool and playground, both of which are kept up nicely. We went for several bike rides weekly and played in the large open fields. The bathroom facilities are cleaned at least once daily and were always tidy. The staff were always kind and helpful! These are the type of memories I will cherish forever! Thank you to the owner whom my spouse and daughter became buddies with! We will be back again, The Rogan-Akgun family

One star is generous - zero would be more accurate. Theresa is unpleasant. Period. She was rude when we called to make the reservation and we excused it away as maybe she just had a bad day. However, when I went in to the office to check out, she chastised me for having been on the wrong site. I politely reminded her that we had been there for two days so the appropriate time to say something about that would have been at the beginning of our stay, not the end. Her personality flipped and she started to be nice, asking how the stay was. I told her that it was not somewhere we will come back to because it was like camping in a cemetery and we prefer more vibrant, friendly, and engaging campgrounds that allow pets and bicycles. We were never told about the no dog policy and it was just luck that we weren’t traveling with one of our dogs. She blamed the solemn atmosphere on it being late in the season, insisting that summer is a blast there. She said no one camps this time of year and that’s why it was so solemn. But we saw many sites occupied, including at least one tent site. I explained that we camp year round and she said that’s because we are from the Midwest where it doesn’t get cold. Not sure how that made sense but anyway, she was very insistent that our bad experience was only because it wasn’t summer. It couldn’t have been the sterile vibe, the no dog policy, the signs everywhere saying “no bicycles”, the weird energy that felt like we were constantly being watched, or that we had to pay for showers. If camping in a place with zero hospitality and zero camp life vibrancy is your thing, this place is perfect. For everyone else, book anywhere but here.

Camp ground was really nice very clean, but a nice clean campground doesn't go so far if you have to deal with a really miserable person at the office... this camp ground is better suited for older couples, if you have kids do not bring them here, they can not play they can not ride bikes nothing... it was close to the ocean which was nice but that's probably all this camp ground had going for it... Maybe when I retire and no kids are with me I'd return but not till then

I agree with all the 1 star reviews, the lady that answers the phone Theresa is very rude. We had a reservation for 2 nights and was sitting in the hospital with someone trying to reschedule for another time later in the week or next and was told of the cancellation policy that we wouldn't get any money back even though we wanted to stay later in the week or next. We also stated the we had stayed before at the campground and when we ended the conversation I heard her say under her breath they only stayed twice before she hung up. I understand cancellation polices however this was a reschedule request. She doesn't care. She kept the full amount that we prepaid in full, not even a partial refund was offered. Very rude and very uncaring. Be sure to read all the other one star reviews. Not a recommended place to stay

We recently stayed at Tidewater Campground, and while the grounds themselves are clean and well-kept, our experience with the staff—particularly one employee named Theresa—was very disappointing and left a lasting negative impression. When we arrived, we were about 45 minutes early for check-in. We simply wanted to see if our campsite might be ready. Instead of a polite response, Theresa made sarcastic and rude comments about people not knowing how to read check-in times and complained about early arrivals. When I mentioned that we had waited at the nearby Walmart before coming, she said, “I’d rather you be at the Walmart parking lot than here making me mad.” It was uncalled for, but I decided to brush it off and move on. Later, while at the pool with our children, our 6-year-old jumped in (something we didn’t realize was against the rules). Theresa came out of the office and, in front of everyone, asked if he was our child, then embarrassed him by asking if he knew how to read and telling him to read the “no jumping” signs. Let’s be real every pool has no jumping signs. He was so upset he started crying and refused to swim for the rest of the day. There are ways to correct behavior, especially with children, that don’t involve shaming them publicly. If you have kids, I would strongly recommend thinking twice before staying here. The campground itself is nice and clean, but the way we were spoken to—both as paying guests and as parents—was unacceptable. Unfortunately, this overshadowed any positives about the location. As for our family we will NOT be coming back unless we hear of new owners.

Worst place to camp. Absolutely miserable place to stay and disrespectful family ran business. This is not for a family to stay.

Stay here if you like a camp that literally puts you to bed at 10:00. We were asked once to turn off my music with my 7 year old and girlfriend, we did. Then 5 mins later to put out the fire completely, my son was freezing, we did anyways. They told us not to talk outside the tent... Did everything they asked no problem at all, we went to bed. The next morning at 6:00 AM the same people woke us up with leaf blowers for untill we packed up. THE WORST PART WAS THE OLD WOMAN T, WHOSE FAMILY RUNS THIS PLACE TOLD ME AND MY SON Ricky THAT WE ARE NOT WELCOME HERE AND NOT TO COME BACK??? Ricky's not coming back for sure. I WASN'T GOING TO COME BACK ANYWAYS. SHE MADE HIM CRY FOR 30 MINS ON THE WAY HOME. You can hear the misery in her voice right from making the reservation, should have listened to my gut. Karma will come back to this place for sure.

Based on all the negative reviews, I'm out! If you have an issue take a picture and report them to the town health department or call the police to resolve other issues. They'll capitulate.

We stayed here because of a wedding close by on beach. I have never felt so unwelcome at a campground. We had 5 sites and 6 kids. We were told to quite down at 10.01pm. No one near our sites, kids were playing cards and laughing. We were told to slow down after going 5mph!! We could not even touch gas peddle!! Never camping here again!! The campground where fun goes to die!!!!!!

My daughter and I have been coming to Tidewater for 4 years. We have been a seasonal for two years now. We absolutely love it here. Teresa is great she really cares about my daughter and I every time I’ve needed anything Teresa has always help me out and she has gone above and beyond to help us. I’m so happy the speed limit is walking speed because children are riding their bikes including my daughter, people are taking walks so 3 miles an hour will keep everyone safe. The campground is very well kept .The bathrooms are very clean , the showers are as well. I have met some wonderful friends over the last 4 years, so has my daughter. This is definitely my second home. I love coming here every summer to see Teresa and everyone else we have become friends with. The pool is also very nice. I have only good positive things to say. I love that it’s so peaceful, quiet and safe.

I've been a seasonal camper at Tidewater for 4 seasons. I recommend it as a very decent family campground to spend your summer getaway. Rules are strictly in place, including a "walking speed" for the safety of children and others. Bathrooms and grounds are routinely cleaned. Relaxing by the poolside is very welcoming. It's a great location close to Hampton Beach, music venues, restaurants, grocery stores and more. A shuttle service is available for a reasonable fee. Team members work together to help make your stay as pleasurable as possible. I always look forward to returning every year.

My family has been staying here for well over 30 years, I grew up with stays here every summer. It holds a special place in my heart. You won’t find a better campground anywhere!!

We've stayed at Tidewater a number of times including short stays as we were looking for a house in the area. The short version of this review is that it is a very, very nice campground and we strongly recommend it. It's hard to believe that this has been in business as long as it has. I grew up spending summers at a campground in Maine that is just about as old. I've gone back there a couple of times to revisit old memories. What a mistake. That place has not aged well. On the other hand Tidewater is almost immaculate: Clean bathrooms, very well maintained grounds, nice pool and more. There's always someone working to keep things in great condition. Maybe my favorite part of Tidewater is Theresa, the owner and manager. She's friendly, helpful and very easy to work with. She even remembers me when I come in after months away. On the other hand . . . : Maybe you'd better find some other place to stay if you don't like rules. You know -- the kind of rules that basically remind you not to be a selfish jerk. No dogs, because so many people don't seem to care about bothering neighbors when their dog barks. A very strict (and slow) speed limit throughout the campground, to try and keep kids from getting run over. If you like to get drunk and noisy, again I'd urge you to go somewhere else. We've stayed at countless (literally; I have no idea) campgrounds and RV parks all across the country. The parks with firm, fair rules -- like Tidewater -- are so much more enjoyable than the parks that are poorly run, and where the management clearly just cares about renting every site, no matter how people behave. So look at the rules on the Tidewater site. To me they seem logical and reasonable. But I've seen negative reviews by people who feel they can do whatever they please, no matter how it affects those around them. I don't know about you, but to me that's pretty annoying. Tidewater is in a great location, just off a major highway but far enough away so you don't hear anything. Very close to Hampton and Hampton Beach, and almost as close to Portsmouth. Read between the lines of the negative reviews. And keep in mind that Good Sam rates Tidewater highly. It's a great place to stay.
