Valdez KOA Journey

My friend and I stayed at the KOA just outside of Valdez for a few days, and we had a wonderful experience. The campground was easy to find, very clean, and well maintained. The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, and welcoming from the moment we arrived. The showers were probably the best I’ve ever used at a KOA. Each shower was in its own private room rather than an open shower area, and one of the thoughtful finishing touches was that they provided clean bath mats for every guest. It really made the experience feel comfortable and well cared for. The campground itself was spotless, and I especially liked that some campsites even had their own fenced areas for people traveling with dogs. I would absolutely recommend this KOA to anyone visiting the Valdez area. It was, in my opinion, the best campground we saw while we were there. I would definitely stay here again on my next trip to Valdez.

Right off the highway. The sites are really close together. Close enough if there had been anyone in the space right next to us, we would have had slide out issues. The sites are level, mostly rock/gravel combo. They have a nice playground, clean restrooms and showers. One washer out of three worked; three dryers out of four. The staff was friendly.

Our family stayed during opening weekend 2026 and had a wonderful time. As it was opening weekend and the campground had recently made some improvements, we had a few minor issues the first day of our stay. That being said, the staff here is amazing and will treat you like family. Our cabin heat wasn’t working properly and within 5 minutes of us reaching out they were knocking on the door with a space heater (even though it was after hours). The couple other minor concerns we had were addressed just as quickly and professionally. I highly recommend staying here. It’s nice to be off the beaten path but close to everything as well. This place truly cares about your experience so if you have any issues- TELL THEM! Issues can always pop up anywhere you stay but this place will address your concerns quickly and with the same level of care they would a family member. 10/10 recommend. We will be staying again for sure!

Selena made our stay! We came in late and were super tired. We drove down from the Dalton and were in dire need of rest. Selena instantly made us feel at home, safe, and comfortable. The next morning she helped us to rent e bikes to take into town and we had an amazing time! Thank you for the recommendation and an awesome experience. I would highly recommend this stop! Thank you Selena for one of our best memories of Alaska!

Great campsites with picnic tables and fire pits. Their on-site laundry and showers are great. The showers in particular are in-door and heated as well as very clean (compared to other locations we've visited). Their staff is quite helpful and accommodating - they even saved a cinnamon roll for us, since they knew we'd be late getting back from our morning excursion.

Great place to stay. Centrally located between town and Allison Point fishing (Solomon Gulch Fish Hatchery). Grounds are well taken care of. The rest rooms and showers very clean throughout the day. Laundry area was clean and well taken care of. This was our second stay and will stay again. Lori and Celine are awesome!! The staff are friendly and helpful. Keep smiling- it’s contagious.

It's a KOA. I don't have a lot of experience with KOAs but I understand they're all pretty similar. Although I have to say the shower / bathrooms in this place were immaculate and provided towels. The staff up front also wonderful. My first day they were doing construction on the road so it was a little irritating to get to but by the second day they'd already completed that section. It has very good access to the Solomon gulch fish hatchery which I highly recommend. Also while you're in Valdez definitely take a trip on the Lu-lu Belle.

We are VIP members and always stay at KOAs. We have stayed at all of the KOAs in Alaska but we had to cancel our trip to this location since they do not have potable water. They didn't tell anyone and people don't know about it until they check in. We happened to read about it online and called them. The state has indicated that their water is not potable and that it must be boiled in order to use it. They consider their water potable since you have to boil it. That is not potable water. Their KOA page doesn't mention it and they never mention it on their Facebook page or in the email confirming the reservation. Because my husband is in remission from cancer, we can't risk having their water introduced into our RV tanks. They offered to cancel our reservation and then when I checked my cancelation notice, they didn't refund our deposit. We canceled due to their lack of communicating this issue, that they have known about all summer apparently. Had we been advised of this in a timely manner, we would have canceled a long time ago. I guess this will be one KOA that we never visit since they are not truthful in providing information that is necessary. Beware if you stay here.

My family generally avoids koas due to bad past experiences but I am so thankful we stayed at this one. The tent sites aren't right next to the road or under huge lights. The showers are nice and hot. But best of all you can't beat the service. Our rental car was unsafe to drive out of here and we were stuck. The office was not only understanding but did absolutely everything they could to help us out. They gave us late checkout until we figured out what was going on. They gave us a safe place to store our food from animals. They shared every resource they knew of including tracking down and bringing us the number for the local taxi to get us to the ferry so we could finally leave town. They even let us leave the rental car there until the company finally found a tow truck willing to come tow it 300 miles. Seriously the most supportive, vest campground staff we've ever encountered in 40+ years of camping. Stay here you won't regret it. Thank you so much we hope to return someday without being stranded.

I highly recommend this campsite!! The staff are all so nice and very knowledgeable about the city and are ready to answer any questions you have! Since it's located at the edge of town, it's very quiet. It's a campsite, so you'll obviously hear the people camping around you, but you aren't on top of each other. The campsite itself held a lot of activities while we were there if we wanted something to do. They also have actual bathrooms (which were always clean!) and hot showers. They also have a sink to wash dishes in. A nice playground and a doggy playground. Each campsite had its own table and fireplace, which was so nice and convenient. And the wifi was an amazing amenity! I seriously recommend if you want somewhere quiet and cozy to camp

I booked 4 nights at a deluxe cabin at an extremely cheap price, due to a glitch in the website when I was booking. I was SO worried up until check in that they would cancel my reservation. I was checked in by Lori, the GM, and she is an amazing human! She said she let me keep the reservation cause I got lucky and basically won the lottery 😂. She also hooked me up with some kindling when I ran out, but didn’t need a whole additional bundle. The cabin was absolutely perfect and more than I was expecting. It was clean, comfy and cozy. It even had a TV with free channels! I took full advantage of the firepit and really appreciated they sold wood after hours on the honor system-I didn’t have cash but was able to text them to charge my account for what I took. I didn’t experience the rest of the campground/RV park, as the cabins are somewhat secluded, but I found it to be quiet and peaceful overall. The location was perfect; a 5 min drive into town or 20-30 min bike ride. Overall my price was 1000% an absolute steal, but I’d stay here again even at full price!

We stayed in the "Deluxe Cabin" It was older than what I expected. We have stayed at many KOA's and they were a lot newer. It was ok for a 2 night stay in late August. The bed was comfortable and bedding was nice. Parking right next to cabin. When I walked in I told my husband wow how nice they left us a basket of goodies and cups of cereal. My husband said look up and I saw a price list. Small bag chips 3.89, Snack cake 3.89, reg bag of M & M's 3.50. Small frig that had things in it for sale, which took up space. Expensive, but I guess we are in Alaska! We went to local grocery store and bought our own snacks. Decent place to stay and a lot cheaper than other places in Valdez.

We had a great stay at Valdez KOA. They have very friendly and attentive staff. The 6 minute drive to town was extremely convenient. It would be easy to bike to town as well as there is a great paved trail along the highway that leads all the way to town. We utilized their corn hole games and horseshoe pit, and our dog enjoyed the fenced in area. My wife left her headphones in our cabin and they mailed them back to us! Thank you guys! Absolutely amazing service. We’ll definitely be back!

Wonderful and spacious KOA with great sites and amazing staff. We used one of the easy-camp sites with the tent already set up (thankfully - it was raining hard for two days straight, in true Valdez fashion, so our own equipment didn’t get soaked) which was a really nice setup away from the RV sites. Bathroom is a bit of a hike away, especially in pouring rain, so bring your wellies!

Not that great of a KOA. We stay at KOAs once and awhile while traveling because we know we will have everything we need to regroup. They do not have sewer, but they have someone that comes to pump you out. They have a laundry, but not that great. If you come to Valdez you are better off picking one of the camping places in town. You can walk places and have full services. Plus, some of them are hard surfaced which helps in the rain.
