We camped in our Skoolie for 4 nights and it was amazing. The pics online show more trees at the campsites, but on the west side of the campground there are no trees. The bathrooms/showers are unbelievably nice! The location is amazing! Shelby and Gage gave us an awesome two hour horse ride tour. We saw two huge bull moose. I was able to ride my bike up Trail Ridge Road. You are very close to Grand Lake. Riding a bike is about 3 miles from the campsites and it would be uphill from Grand Lake. All staff was friendly and water and electric worked great our whole stay!

Spacious campsites and very friendly staff.

Had a great time viewing the wildlife that included 3 Moose and some deer walking near our campsite.

Also enjoyed seeing the staff running the horses out to the pastures.

Wanted to do some horseback riding but we ran out of time.

We have been going to winding river for years. Wes and his staff have been great. The facilities are great. I would recommend winding river to anyone who wants to camp near grand lake or Rocky Mountain national park.

This was my family's 2nd stay (Memorial Day weekend 2026).  We really love this place.  The proximity and balance between RMNP and Grand Lake is great.  You can be out in the wilderness yet have access to the town for groceries, restaurants, shopping, etc.  The grounds are very well kept and facilities are clean.  We enjoyed a horseback riding experience on the property.  We stayed at a tent site and had a moose pay us a visit in the morning across the fence.  lot's of wildlife in the area.  Great experience (again) and will be back.

Even though the area was recently affected by a wildfire, it was still a beautiful resort to stay in. The amenities were fantastic. This place is extremely family friendly, offering a playground, basketball courts, a petting zoo, and horseback riding. The sites offered were very spacious and well-maintained. With the added bonus of having two 4 legged friends wandering the premises keeping an eye over everything. ;) We will definitely be back.

This resort is not a good one. I cant beleive they have the rating they currently have! We reserved a full service campsite there and they had a fire ban, so not much to do outside the camper and the flies and bugs made sure of it. They have horseback riding, but don't reserve it in advance. No refunds regardless of the situation. The campsite in general was subpar and we've been to much better. In town, they don't have many places to eat, so make sure youbare cooking at the campsite and bring gas. Since its within Rocky Mountain National Park, the fire bans will be frequent and un predictable. It was a full service site though which was a positive, but don't expect much from the views as its sourounded by burn areas. Also no wireless service and no wifi, so bring your dvds.

Love love love Winding River!  We try to make this place an annual visit.  My daughter loves horses and this place has so many beautiful and kind animals.  We didn't stay in a cabin, just camped.  Great little campsites.  Some very close to each other, but it is OK.  The only complaint we have was the portapotty was pretty gross.  The main bathroom facilities are much much nicer.

My family absolutely loved staying at this outdoor resort. We enjoyed all of the activities that we participated in, especially the petting zoo.
Each employee we spoke with was extremely kind and had no issues answering our questions or making accommodations. The tent sites were spacious and we were so happy to have free showers and a fire pit. We will definitely be back again!!

Winding River is our family’s happy place! We have been visiting regularly for 15 years and now that our kids are older, it is a summer tradition. It is such a relaxing place.  We love the animals, playing in the river and we almost always see a moose. And the bathrooms are amazing - clean and beautiful.  There is so much to do in the area, but we all agree we love just staying at the camp.

What a badass place to stay!!! Owners are awesome! Brand new everything!! Will stay here every time I’m on my way to watch the Biff and Cledus at ‘Dega. This is THE PLACE to stay!!

The staff was amazing, during our stay we had truck issues and they accommodated us and offered any help needed we ended up staying a week longer until our truck was taken care of. Isaac our horse back guide was amazing, Chris who is a RV mechanic who was staying there and working for the resort stopped to offer assistance as well and to all the other employees you were awesome. Will most definitely recommend and will come and visit again!!!! 5 stars with out a doubt. Winding river resort is the best place we have stayed so far..

Best camping spot in Grand Lake! We have stayed here around 20 times in the last few years and always love our time spent here. There is everything you could possibly need just steps away. Clean/beautiful showers/restrooms, close to town, petting zoo and playgrounds for the kids, and the people that work here are the best part! Everyone is so accommodating and kind! We love winding river! So much so that we got engaged here and now spend our anniversary here as a way to get away from busy day to day life. Thank you to everyone at Winding River Rv Resort for always making our stay special and memorable!!

We just completed a great 2 night stay at Winding River Resort in our Sprinter van.  It was a perfect location, only minutes away from the town of Grand Lake and it had a beautiful setting with some excellent amenities.  The bathrooms were the best of any property we have stayed at in terms of cleanliness, appearance and lots of hooks for belongings in the shower.  The store was well stocked and the stables to arrange horseback rides was adjacent to the campsites and absolutely the most well-cared for horses and cleanest stable I have ever seen.  Best of all, there are rules for maintaining a quiet and peaceful stay, which we really appreciated..  We very much enjoyed staying there and would give it the highest possible marks for a well-run campground.

We just had a great weekend at Winding River.  We originally had booked a spot at this campground right as the fire hit.  The resort was generous in giving us a refund for needing to cancel.  It must have been an extremely scary time for many, many people in the Grand Lake area.  But most of what burned was trees, but also a few structures.

We stayed in site #119 which is the grid of full-hookup RV spots.  It was unbelievably calm and quiet.  We enjoyed some easy, beautiful mountain hikes (East Inlet/Adams Falls and Monarch Lake).  Also we ate lunch at the Grand Lake Lodge with good food and scenic views.  One afternoon we noticed a baby moose heading down to the pasture just outside the RV area.

This gave us just what we needed - a happy, quiet, peaceful weekend in the mountains.  Thanks to all the great folks at Winding River!
